Congratulations to our member @barbaradiener on the opening of her latest solo exhibition ‘The Rocket’s Red Glare’ in Sample-Studios Gallery, The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion tonight, with opening remarks by Dr. @stephen.roddy @digitalhumanitiesucc

‘The Rocket’s Red Glare’ unfolds across Diener’s photographs accompanied by archival materials which together explore the complex history of Nazi engineer-turned-NASA rocket scientist Wernher von Braun and Diener’s own German family heritage. Diener’s interest in Mixed Realities challenges conventional approaches to documentary photography and interrogates the blurred line between fact and fiction as well as the use of history to construct narratives.

📅 The exhibition continues until 3 October. Open Tue-Sat 11am-5pm, Sun 12-5pm

Following a pilot programme in 2025, the Residency continues to focus on providing a stimulating environment for the resident Digital Artists and affording them a degree of financial support to concentrate on their own digital arts practice.

For more information and details on how to apply, see the link in bio 🔗

What a day we had at the 3rd Symposium on Digital Art in Ireland! We’re delighted to look back on such a vibrant and inspiring gathering.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on 22 April for making the day so rich and engaging. Across five sessions, we welcomed 19 speakers who shared their work, ideas, and research in generous and thought-provoking ways. It was a real pleasure to host such a wide range of voices across artists, researchers, and practitioners, and to see conversations unfold throughout the day. We were delighted to welcome 80 attendees, who brought energy, engagement, and lively discussion to the day.

We are grateful to all of our speakers for their time and insight, and to our partners and supporters who made the event possible. Thank you to @artscouncilireland for supporting this work, and to @matheson_law, Sample-Studios Digital Art Partner, for their generous support of the symposium and our wider digital arts programme. A special thank you as well to our collaborators at @digitalhumanitiesucc, whose continued partnership has been central to the growth of the Digital Art in Ireland programme.

As part of the programme, we were thrilled to launch 'House of Memory / بيت الذاكرة', a solo exhibition by @basilalrawi, in Sample-Studios Gallery The Lord Mayor's Pavilion, which is now open until 30 May, Tues-Sat, 11am-5pm.

It's truly energising to have seen this initiative grow from an online panel discussion in 2021 to now having become a growing national platform for digital art. Digital Art in Ireland continues to evolve thanks to everyone who takes part; we’re already looking forward to what comes next!

I will be presenting at the Digital Arts in Ireland Symposium this morning, a collaboration between @samplestudios and @digitalhumanitiesucc! Today also marks the 110 anniversary of the ship, the Aud, being scuttled in Cork Harbour, a story that has been very influential in making the work during my @spikeislandcork residency last year.

The Aud was on its way to aid the Easter Rising when it was stopped by the Royal Navy and escorted into Cork Harbour. The crew were briefly interned in Spike Island before being sent to England and held as prisoners of war for the duration of World War I.
