Arts at the Armory · Somerville, MA

Tomorrow I’m bringing my listening practice and The Augmented Reality Poetry Machine to a community installation centered on care and connection.

The event is sold out, but if you are there tomorrow, come connect, and take part in this ongoing landmark interactive poetry project.

Together we can build the community, connections, and futures we want to see in the world.

Looking forward to listening, and to the @somervilleconnectionexpo

This Sunday, Digital Poetics will be at the Somerville Connection Fair doing something very simple:

listening.

Come sit with me. Tell me a story, a memory, something you’re thinking about, something you’re carrying, or simply what is happening in your world.

I’ll listen—and write you a poem.

I’m a poet trained and certified in active listening through The Good Listening Project, and this installation brings that practice into the ongoing work of Digital Poetics: exploring what becomes possible when language, attention, participation, and relation meet.

❔ How do we surface what the official record has forgotten... or erased?
❔ What is the relationship between human and machine in preserving the future?

Please join us Monday, Sep 21. 10:30 Eastern, 4:30 CEST. Virtual attendance free. With @capim.se taken in Gothenburg, Sweden by @digitalpoetics

💜 Won't you join us for Relational Method Poetics in the Archive: Archiving the Impossible in the Chthulucene - with
Monica Storss
Sep 21, 4:30 CEST

This session introduces Relational approaches to working with and building archives.

Archives are not neutral spaces, but human-shaped, imperfect, flawed compendiums. Their silences, stores, omissions, location in space-time, forms of access, stewards, and interfaces are as important as what they contain. Increasingly, digital tools and nonhuman sensemaking are primary modes of archival encounter. While conventional archival logics often treat records as objects to be captured, classified, and filed, Relational methods recognize the archive as an ecosystem of relationships among things, objects, subjects, archivists, technologies, times, places, and researchers. This session asks participants to reframe their own relationship to the archive, while reconsidering encounter, interpretation, and relation through human and nonhuman forms of sensemaking.

Learn more at: https://capim.se/en/events/the-figure-of-the-archive-research-seminar-4 and I'll try to put the link in bio, too.
I hope you join us. @capim.se

Academia can be wild -- but what if there was an informal, mutual aid community for very cool doctoral students and early-career researchers? A space to share knowledge, resources, opportunities, encouragement, and the kinds of practical advice that can make academic life a little more navigable.
Not another professionalization space, but a space for generosity, reciprocity, and collective care: sharing what we know, helping one another find what we need, celebrating each other’s work, and making some of the hidden curriculum a little less hidden. This is the kiki. This is the hangout.

Open to all, and especially building community and kinship for first-generation, non-traditional, and underrepresented academics.

And to understanding more about the aims of this group check out:

OUT OF THIS WORLD: An Exoplanetary Workshop
Monica Storss, Northeastern University
Bart Kuipers, SETI AIR

🌍 The creative workshop investigates how scientific constraints can productively defamiliarize human experience and create new frameworks for creativity and expression.

Participants will produce original creative work while considering broader questions about environment, perception, and cultural formation in speculative contexts, and how the arts, sciences, and technology inform each other in relational multiplicities.

This generative creative workshop explores how humans can prepare for a future among the stars, and explore how astronomical data from confirmed exoplanets can generate new poetic forms and linguistic constraints, and examine how exoplanetary conditions can shape language, metaphor, and narrative structure.

We'll develop from writing exercises that respond to non-terrestrial physical parameters: alternative light spectra, gravitational variations, and atmospheric compositions.

🔭 Please note: this is not a science fiction workshop. Kuipers develops tools with his AIR collaborators from @setiinstitute real world scientific data, and Storss develops methods for off-world humanities.

I am excited to share I have been selected as the Women@MIT Research Fellow, 2026.
My project, "Women's Work: Making the Mediums" is an Augmented Reality zine.

The project will explore the experimental media practices of the women who built the emerging tech we know and love today -- but whose contributions are often erased.

Delighted to be able to tell these stories, and very thankful to @mitlibraries and distinctive collections for making this project possible, and to @bloodmoonboston and @dr.alexketchum for being on the adventure with me. taken in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) by @digitalpoetics

When the world is a dumpster fire, art holds answers.

Everything is Terrible! Don't Stop Now is a session on why The Arts are the infrastructure to keep us surviving and thriving when the world is a dumpster fire. While technical skills have a shelf life, the durable skills native to the humanities—radical empathy, critical making, ethical inquiry, and the ability to find meaning in ambiguity—are the infrastructure of human resilience.

Join Monica Storss (that's me!) [Northeastern University, MIT, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Xerox] in understanding why you should not give up, and why we must double down on the un-automatable human spirit -- precisely because the world is on fire.

I would like invite you to a session on the frontier of digital storytelling. "Assembling Ghosts: Augmented Reality and Extended Reality Publishing" will explore how the transition from 2D screens to immersive environments isn't just a technical shift, it's also a cultural one. Whether you are a writer, storyteller, developer, or digital scholar, I invite you to come learn how we are assembling a new canon for the emerging spatial age.
