Happy Birthday to my beautiful mother. ❤️

There are some years that change you forever, and this has been one of them. I know this year has been just as heavy on you as it has been on me, and I’ve watched you carry things that no mother should ever have to carry. Through all of the hurt, the questions, the tears, and the days when finding a reason to smile probably wasn’t easy… you’re still here. Still loving. Still giving. Still being Emmah/Ma/Mommy/Mother/Mama Boonie Mama.

I don’t think I’ll ever have the right words to explain how much you mean to me. You’ve been my safe place, my strength, my reminder that no matter how hard life gets, we keep going.

And today, I want you to know that you deserve to be celebrated. Not just for being my mother, but for the woman you are. For your heart. For your sacrifices. For everything you’ve done for your family, even when you were hurting yourself.

I pray this next year gives you moments that feel lighter. More laughter. More peace. More reasons to smile without having to force it. And I pray God continues to give you the strength to keep walking through everything that life puts in front of you.

October 7. Our birthday. Forever. ♎️🕊️

This is the first birthday I’ve ever had to experience without the person who came into this world with me.

Darius Nigel Woods wasn’t just my twin brother. He was a father. A son. A brother. A Marine. An artist. A DJ. A dreamer. My partner in all the crazy ideas we believed we could turn into something real. He was Sir Dariuz.

There was never a version of my life where October 7 belonged only to me. And no matter how many birthdays God allows me to see without him physically standing beside me, there never will be.

That’s the part that hurts.

I’m still getting older, while my twin will forever be the age he was when he left this earth. I’m still here trying to figure out how to celebrate life while grieving somebody who was literally born beside me.

But I know one thing…

I refuse to let death be the most important thing people remember about Darius Woods.

Remember the man.
Remember the father.
Remember the Marine.
Remember the music.
Remember the creativity.
Remember the laughs.
Remember the dreams.
Remember the name.

And most importantly, one day when his son and daughter are old enough to fully understand who their daddy was, I want them to be able to look around and see that the world didn’t forget him.

So today I’m celebrating for two.

Every room I walk into, every accomplishment I reach, every event I DJ, every person TurntLordz puts on, every business we dreamed about that I turn into something real I’m carrying my twin with me.

I would’ve much rather grown old with you than spend the rest of my life keeping your memory alive. But since life didn’t give me that choice, I’ll make sure Darius Nigel Woods lives far beyond either one of us.

Happy birthday to us, twin.
