First off, Mahershala Ali is one of those actors where I already know I’m getting a PERFORMANCE 😂. Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother definitely has the family issues and emotional weight of a drama, but it’s also surprisingly FUNNY. The comedic moments keep it from ever becoming too heavy, and the humor feels natural, like a real family that can be going through absolute HELL and still find something to laugh about. 😂

The action is brutal when it hits, but surprisingly, that’s not really what makes the movie work. At its core, it’s about grief, faith, fatherhood and a man trying to hold his family together after losing his wife.

Mahershala is great, AS EXPECTED, but Adia, who plays his daughter, was the standout for me. MAN… she was AMAZING. 😂 The attitude, comedic timing, anger and vulnerability, she held her own opposite Mahershala and damn near stole a few scenes from him. I really hope she gets some award recognition because that performance deserves some attention.

And I loved seeing this film being set in Houston. Didn’t know the Director is from Houston, so of course this film makes it more special for me.

Overall, Just know this is NOT John Wick. 😂 It takes its time with the characters, and there were a couple spots where the pacing dragged for me. But overall, it’s funny, violent, emotional and surprisingly warm. It IS a drama…but definitely not JUST a drama.

Grade: A- 🎬

The A Different World reboot still holds onto some of the magic from the original, but it definitely plays more into the soap opera side with all the love story plots instead of the overall comedy formula that made the original so great. But I think some of us Millennials and Gen Xers need to give this show a little grace 😂. The A Different World of the 80s and 90s was FOR US. This one is clearly for the new generation, especially Gen Z and that young crowd aspiring to attend an HBCU and experience that life for themselves.

Once I looked at it from that perspective, I enjoyed it for what it was. It was a good watch, it still has that HBCU spirit, and I definitely enjoyed seeing the cameos from the original cast. ESPECIALLY that Byron and Dwayne showdown 😂😂😂. They knew exactly what they were doing with that one!

Is it the original? No. But it doesn’t need to be. We had ours. Let this generation have theirs.

Give it a watch! I enjoyed it. B+ 🎬 by @dillardgent

Man, this movie was beautifully filmed. Like BEAUTIFULLY. The way they used the camera, the scenery, the quiet moments and the dreamlike sequences made you feel like you were seeing everything through this little boy’s eyes.

But what really got me was the message about sons and their fathers. When you’re a little boy, your father can literally be a God in your eyes. It doesn’t matter how flawed he is, what issues he has or what he may be going through himself. That’s still your daddy. You look up to him, you want his approval and sometimes you don’t even realize he’s just a regular man with his own problems until you get older. I thought the movie captured that beautifully without having to explain it to death.

And the way it was filmed made that message hit even harder because everything feels bigger than life, just like things feel when you’re a kid. It’s almost like you’re watching his memories, imagination and reality all blend together.

@j_fonz and @thedaniellebrooks were GREAT. Neither one had to overdo anything to make their performances hit, and that worked perfectly for a movie like this. I really hope both of them get some recognition when award season comes around because the acting deserves to be part of the conversation.

Now let me say THIS 😂…this is definitely for the “A24 Blacks.” If you know, YOU KNOW. 😂 This is artsy Black cinema. If you need somebody explaining what’s happening every 5 minutes, this ain’t for you. 😂

But for me? Beautiful movie, beautiful performances, beautiful message and just beautiful Black filmmaking.

16 YEARS LATER and Tyler Perry finally got this crew back together, and I’m not gonna lie, the nostalgia got me 😂. Of course these people STILL can’t get together without somebody’s marriage, relationship or business being put on FRONT STREET.

One thing I’ll give Tyler is he CLEARLY opened that wallet for this one 😂. You can tell this is one of his favorite franchises because the locations, clothes, wedding and overall production look GOOD. This definitely didn’t look like the usual Tyler Perry movie where everybody is in the same Atlanta mansion with the furniture rearranged 😭.

Tasha Smith slipped right back into Angela like she never left, and her and Michael Jai White STILL have some of the best chemistry in the franchise. The whole cast really fell back into these characters naturally.

Now is it a cinematic masterpiece? Absolutely TF NOT 😂. It’s still Tyler, so we got speeches, relationship lessons, questionable dialogue and people exposing VERY private information at the absolute WORST time. And Tyler basically gave these kids their parents’ SAME DAMN PROBLEMS 😭😂.

You definitely FEEL Janet Jackson’s absence because Patricia was such an important part of the original group. BUT Taraji P. Henson was inserted surprisingly well as the “other friend.” Instead of trying to replace Patricia, she feels like another longtime friend who just wasn’t on the previous trips. And honestly, if you’re gonna randomly introduce somebody into a friend group we’ve known for almost 20 years, TARAJI is somebody I’ll accept 😂.

Overall, Tyler didn’t reinvent anything, but he didn’t need to. He gave this franchise the budget, nostalgia, laughs and MESS it deserved.

Sometimes you just wanna watch familiar Black characters get dressed up, go somewhere beautiful, drink wine, argue at dinner and EXPOSE EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS 😂😂😂.

So Regal brought back Mystery Movie Monday, where they screen an upcoming movie early, and today’s surprise horror movie was… Eli Roth’s Ice Cream Man.

And just my luck… it was some BULLSH*T.

Eli Roth… come here. Nah, come here right quick. I just wanna talk…

Grabs belt.

DON’T (pop) YOU (pop) EVER (pop) IN (pop) YO (pop) MUTHA (pop) F*CKIN (pop) LIFE (pop) MAKE (pop) SOME (pop) BULL (pop) SH*T (pop) LIKE (pop) THIS (pop) AGAIN! (pop)

How do you go from Cabin Fever and Hostel to… whatever the hell this was? Your horror movies have slowly turned into straight slapstick nonsense. And I thought you had already hit rock bottom with Thanksgiving…

Now don’t get me wrong I LOVE blood-and-guts horror. But there’s a limit. You really sat there and thought a movie about Satanic ice cream that turns kids into sadistic killers was a good idea… FOR THE SILVER SCREEN?!

This is some straight-to Tubi-at-2:00 a.m. type of movie. Not something people should have to pay theater prices to see. NO.

That’s exactly why I’ve never watched the Terrifier movies. At a certain point, it’s just gore for the sake of gore with no substance. At least if you’re gonna make something this ridiculous, lean into the comedy like Zombieland. But nope. The kills weren’t scary, they weren’t clever, and they weren’t even funny. They were just… stupid. I guess this could become some future cult-classic type of stupid, but I wasn’t feeling it.

AND THEN…

walks around like Pinky from Friday After Next

The… NERVE!!!

You used AI in some of the scenes?!

UGHHHHHHH!!! 😫😫😫

Eli, please go back to your old formula because you have officially fallen OFF. MY GAWD, this is easily one of the stupidest movies I’ve seen in theaters in YEARS.

Grade: F!!!!

DO NOT spend your money on this, people. 🤣🤣 by @dillardgent

Man… hands down, the BEST Spider-Man movie ever made! Honestly, it’s the best “bridge” Marvel movie between the major event films. I was genuinely surprised by how good this was.

This wasn’t just another CGI-heavy spectacle thrown together. The visual effects were incredible, and the fight choreography is, in my opinion, the best we’ve ever gotten in a Spider-Man film. Every action sequence had weight, creativity, and heart.

And FINALLY… we get an introduction to someone (I won’t spoil it) that helps Marvel start moving beyond the Endgame era and sets the stage for what comes after Doomsday. That’s all I’ll say.

If you’re a Marvel nostalgia junkie, this movie is absolutely for you. The cameos had the theater losing its mind, and they were handled in a way that actually felt earned instead of forced.

Make this the movie you go see before summer ends. You won’t be disappointed!

Blood and guts. Guts and blood. Blood and MORE guts. Gore. Cringe. More cringe. A whole lot of “Girl, what the f*ck are you doing?!” followed immediately by “GET UP!!!” That’s Evil Dead Burn in a nutshell.

At this point, the Evil Dead franchise just doesn’t miss. Every installment finds a new way to traumatize us, and I’m here for it.

Picking up after the last film, the family of a historian connected to a cult devoted to the Book of the Dead gathers to mourn the death of a son who was attacked by a Deadite. Of course, because it’s an Evil Dead movie, nobody gets to grieve in peace. One possession later and the entire weekend turns into a blood-soaked fight for survival.

Was it better than Evil Dead Rise? I’m going to say no. But what this film lacks in topping Rise, it makes up for with its filmmaking. The camera work is absolutely ridiculous. It follows the carnage from the floor, the ceiling, through hallways, around corners… the Deadite is out here f*cking everybody up, and the camera refuses to let you miss a second of it.

Everyone keeps saying this is the goriest Evil Dead yet. Honestly? I’d say it’s the cringiest. One word: Dentures. That’s it. That’s the review. 🤢🤮😂

And can we talk about these Deadites? They were out here fighting like they trained under Jackie Chan. I was expecting demonic possessions, not kung fu ass whoopings.

If you’re a horror fan, this is a ridiculously fun ride. It’s disgusting, over-the-top, chaotic, hilarious in all the wrong ways, and exactly what I wanted from an Evil Dead movie.

The MAGA film bros don’t just want to criticize movies, they want to control what Hollywood makes. After seeing Disney and Marvel pivot in response to years of online outrage, they seem to think they can pressure every major filmmaker the same way, including Christopher Nolan.Nolan appears to be playing chess with this release by prioritizing established critics over the basement-dwelling podcast crowd that has already decided to trash the film before seeing it. And even after it opens, don’t be surprised when the review bombing starts. For some people, hating the movie was always the plan. So to make BLACK QUEENS please support this film next week 🙏🏾 by @dillardgent
