I draw a lot of famous faces, but when working on things like pen technique, I like to practice with images of random people so I don’t overthink capturing likeness. Here is a ball point pen drawing of someone I don’t know anything about.

“Nona, unfinished”
Ball point pen, pencil
———————————

Hearing of Michelle Trachtenberg’s passing feels like losing an old friend—someone you may not have known personally but who was woven into the fabric of your childhood. Like so many kids of my generation, I first met Michelle as Nona Mecklenberg, Little Pete’s fearless and eccentric best friend on The Adventures of Pete & Pete, my all-time favorite show. Her character, her presence, and her friendship with Little Pete resonated deeply with me, and in some ways, it feels like I grew up alongside her.

News like this is a strange kind of heartbreak—the loss of someone you may have lost touch with over the years but still hold close in memory. Her work left a mark, and I’ll always be grateful for the stories she helped tell. My heart goes out to her family, her friends, and everyone who, like me, carried a piece of her with them.

Mama Fratelli, as portrayed by the incredible Anne Ramsay in “The Goonies”. She has such an unmistakable face — I just had to draw her.
