One freeride this whole season, and I’m glad it was this one.

A beautiful space to learn and play, with no pressure and no timing, alongside the Italian DH team and a lot of amazing people.

This heat was absolutely insane. 🔥

This was both my first and last race of the season before the World Championships in Paraguay. The weekend started positive, and after a few practice runs I was feeling confident and comfortable on the board.

Then the rain came.

With my recent knee injury still fresh, I decided not to take unnecessary risks and skipped qualifying. It wasn’t an easy decision and, honestly, it felt like a defeat at the time. But after seeing how patchy and unpredictable the road conditions were during Q2 and Q3, I’m still convinced it was the right call.

Race day arrived and, after only one dry practice run, I had to fight my way into the race through a heat for the last spot in the bracket. I made it through, but starting from the very back meant every heat ahead was going to be a tough one.

This battle against @klos.lukas_ was for a place in the quarterfinals.

@hazclarke_hlss got out front early and quickly opened a gap while Lukas and I were locked in our own battle behind.
Every time one of us attacked, the other responded, and neither of us could cut the gap to the leader.

I’m genuinely grateful to have shared a race like this with him.
We pushed each other to the limit, attacking and defending every corner, but always racing clean and with mutual respect.
The intensity was unreal, and neither of us left anything on the table.

After the injuries and bad luck of the last few months, this was the one moment of the weekend that reminded me why I love racing.

And looking back, big props to Lukas for that push in the last turn that was a crazy move.
 Finishing by just 0.008 seconds was absolutely insane.

Portugal is known for its no grip roads, but I’ve never experienced wheels dropping grip like this.

A lot of people ask how we film these downhill runs and keep everything safe.

Here’s how it works:

• One car goes ahead and radios back if there are any cars, obstacles, or anything else we need to know about.

• Another car follows me with the filmer. The driver always has good brakes and is usually a skater who knows my style really well, so they can predict my lines and where I’m going to brake.

• Safety always comes first. Before we film, we go over the road and talk through what we’ll do in different situations, whether it’s a car, an obstacle, or a crash.

• We also talk about the line we plan to take. On this run, for example, I did all my braking in the first slide instead of sliding both corners. Giving the driver a heads-up on stuff that helps make the footage look better and the filming safer.

At the end of the day, good communication and trust are what make it all work.
