A very inspiring Japan tour comes to an end!
It’s been so great to be back after six years. It feels like waking up from a long dream, filled with a whirlpool of images and sensations.
Wonderful to meet so many people again after such a long time—and to meet many new ones along our 5,000+ km journey through South Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu.
Lots of work ahead—hopefully with some results to be seen in early 2027!
But first, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, full of adventure!

After a very long journey, the Looped Wall/Ceiling Lamp for @muutodesign is finally out!
.
Looped offers a fully illuminated design with soft, dimmable light. The three-layered, mouth-blown glass with coiled edges creates a subtle 3D effect that changes depending on the angle, casting a halo of light with shifting rings onto the wall or ceiling. With its mono-material design, the casing becomes the lamp itself, bringing a quiet yet efficient presence. Elegant in repetition, it refines hallways and ceilings with ambient and functional lighting. The replaceable LED ensures long-lasting functionality. The IP44 version is built to handle humidity and light splashes, making it a suitable and refined choice for bathroom use.

Dust & Sunlight

A few weeks left to visit my first solo show with @secondnature_design_projects!

“Potted plants set the tone—simple, yet too intentional to be overlooked. The hand-built pots, made with gardener Sebastian Rüdisüli, carry time, traces, and the impulse to shape with one’s hands—personal, grounding, immediate. Here, the cultivation of plants meets the cultivation of making, opening the question of what comes into view and what slips past.

In botany, the term plant blindness refers to the tendency to see plants as undifferentiated green. Bähler’s work resists this blur of perception. From this starting point, he turns to fragments left at the margins. A discarded family table is reshaped into softened benches and side pieces; concrete and steel are reworked into sculptural supports or a low table on castors; metal bends into lighting objects—pared back rather than engineered.

These works remain open to irregularities, proposing a way of making that is deliberate yet unforced—shaped through simple interventions rather than polish or market logic. Dust and Sunlight turns Bähler’s studio into a landscape—between shed and garden, in the long light of summer, where hours of sanding meet direct, intuitive making—unforced yet precise. The image recalls Gilles Clément’s jardin en mouvement, where growth is not imposed but guided. Bähler’s approach is one of tending—restrained yet open, attentive to what grows at the edges.”

Factor Light
Designed for versatility by @dimitri_baehler, Factor Light introduces a pivoting core designed to offer 360 degrees of rotation. This feature allows users to tailor their lighting environment to their specific preferences, ensuring a highly personalized experience. Crafted from high-quality extruded aluminum and equipped with an integrated LED bulb, the lamp offers durability and energy efficiency. Designed for @haydesign.

DB20 Ceramics
Drawing inspiration from the design principles of the Factor Light, the DB20 Ceramics collection showcases an interplay of light and shadow with its unique two- and three-dimensional patterns. The collection, consisting of seven pieces, features a glaze interior and a raw exterior finish. This contrast not only enhances the tactile experience but also symbolizes the diverse emotions associated with joy, exploring how such sensations are amplified through visual and textural contrasts. Designed for @puul_ceramics.

Dimitri Bähler is a winner of last year‘s Swiss Design Award competition. The presentation is a collaboration with the Federal Office of Culture. @swissdesignawards.

Switzerland Milano is a joint project by Pro Helvetia and Presence Switzerland, set to feature during #MilanoDesignWeek 2024.
