Selective memory is the backbone of the Empire's foreign policy.

History doesn’t start when the cameras turn on, and it certainly doesn’t start when foreign policy errors become inconvenient to acknowledge.

You can’t understand 1979 without understanding 1953. You can’t understand modern regional escalations without acknowledging the decades of foreign interference, blockades, and coups that preceded them.

A hacked iPhone is the least damning thing in this post.

Last week, a Vanity Fair excerpt from journalist Matthew Cole's new book alleged that Dutch intelligence got into Jared Kushner's iPhone through files found on a Russian spy's server. According to the book, they watched him log into a bank account in Dubai. Kushner denies all of it, and CBS News hasn't independently verified the claims.

So we set the leak aside and looked at what's already on the record.

The president's son-in-law represents the U.S. in high-stakes negotiations while his firm counts Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar among its biggest clients.

The president's eldest son advises the two biggest prediction markets in the country, at the same time.

The president himself reported over $1.4 billion in crypto income.
And the president's son's ex-fiancée was made ambassador to Greece with no prior foreign policy experience.

That last one ended badly. The Wall Street Journal reported that she pushed a top Trump donor to clear $100,000 of her personal credit card debt. The donor says it was in exchange for access to administration officials. One message allegedly told him to wire the money directly to American Express because "it won't show up anywhere." Her attorney disputed the messages' authenticity, and the State Department's watchdog opened an investigation.

The White House asked her to resign. She denies the allegations.
"But none of this is illegal." Most of it may not be, and that's the point. A conflict of interest doesn't need a conviction to be a conflict.

Bonus: Jared's father, Charles Kushner, was sworn in as U.S. Ambassador to France.

What bothers you more: what's alleged, or what's perfectly legal? Comment ALLEGED or LEGAL.

Save this for the next time someone asks for receipts.

Today, I arrived in France to cover the massive protests against the Macron regime.

This is Lyon, where local authorities declared a ban on all peaceful protests.

Hordes of riot police blocked off entrances to the city centre while police helicopters circled above.

Reason2Resist will publish my full report later today.

Same village in the West Bank. 48 hours. Two attacks.

Day 1: Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine was beaten while covering the olive harvest in the West Bank.

Day 2: 7 settlers on ATVs surrounded a convoy carrying diplomats from France, Belgium and Poland in Taybeh, near Ramallah. They smashed the window of the Belgian consulate car. The man in the blue jacket sitting on the ground is a European diplomat.

Response from France & Belgium: "appalling" and "unacceptable"

Response from Washington on the American journalist: "very disturbed" and "not a good look"

No sanctions and no accountability. Just another statement that they will "investigate".

This is what happened during olive harvest season in Taybeh.

Full context from Reason to Resist report, Oct 19.

WHY SAUDI ARABIA IS THE TRUE LINCHPIN OF US POWER IN WEST ASIA AND NOT ISRAEL?

Because of Saudi Arabia's vast territory, large population, massive oil reserves, and strategic geographic position.

With its extensive coastline along the Persian Gulf directly opposite Iran, Saudi Arabia provides a far more viable staging ground for military operations against both Iran and Yemen than Israel could offer.

If the Saudi regime were to collapse, the entire architecture of Western dominance in the region would be at risk, which would in turn have profound consequences for Israel's own regional objectives. by @dimitrilascaris

The supply of oil tankers in the world is limited and it is shrinking. Every time one of these tankers is struck, it is either damaged to an extent that requires repair - not every time, but most of the time - or it's completely destroyed. It's rendered unusable. And so every single day, there are fewer and fewer tankers available to transport oil and gas around the world.

These tankers take a lot of time and money to actually construct. It is unthinkable, given the pace with which Iran is taking them out of service, that new construction of tankers can keep up with those being removed from service.

📈💰 Every time a tanker is taken out of action, it puts more upward pressure on the price having to be paid by users of these tankers to transport oil.

🚨 So even if the oil is getting through the Strait of Hormuz or being exported from the Persian Gulf by some other means... if the price of actually transporting it by tanker is prohibitive, the problem isn't going away. by @dimitrilascaris
