In the Middle East, when a baby is born, visitors who come to congratulate the family are given a small gift, usually chocolate.
When my niece @talanawfal and @jadkhalife ‘s daughter Sama arrived, I designed hers. Her name in Arabic comes from a root that means to rise. Hence the sun, the moon and the clouds.
I skipped the usual baby pink and blue and went for something bolder with simple shapes, flat colour and faces.
All produced by the incredible team @patchichocolate with the wonderful display by @talanawfal

I took ceramic classes in the last months.
I ended up making plates, because I can’t help myself when it comes to kitchen stuff.
I wanted to combine it with something else I’ve been trying to do: teach my son some Arabic letters. So each plate has a letter + a little painted illustration of a fruit or vegetable that starts with it. T for tomato, E for eggplant, etc….
This is the process: from the first sketch to before they went in the kiln.

Every time I visit a city, I come back with a recipe in mind to do at home.
Berlin was about cinnamon buns. I’ve had amazing cinnamon & cardamom rolls.
I did these last weekend leaving the dough to rest overnight in the fridge.
The buns turned out so fluffy, better than all those I had there.

A “humble” attempt to replicate @amal_bohsali ‘s extraordinary knefeh.
It didn’t reach the greatness of the knefeh I had in Beirut in July but it was good enough to give me a taste of Beirut in Madrid.
