We’re delighted to share another important acquisition for Dina Nur Satti (@dinanursatti). Her work “Black Tower Lotus I” has been acquired by the Brooklyn Museum of Art (@brooklynmuseum) for its permanent collection and which will be on display in the renovated African Wing when completed.

Dina’s practice is rooted in material intelligence and quiet transformation—drawing from craft traditions, ritual gestures, and the poetic architecture of natural forms from East Africa and Nubian tradition. In the Lotus works, she builds surfaces that feel both intimate and monumental: patient, layered, and deeply attentive to time, memory, and touch.

A special thank you to both Annissa Malvoisin (Associate Curator, African Arts) and Ernestine White-Mifetu (Curator, African Arts), for their leadership and care in bringing this acquisition to fruition. We’re also thankful for the generous support of Claire and Mike Olsson, whose belief in Dina’s work helped make this moment possible.

We’re equally excited to share that we will be presenting Dina Nur Satti alongside Miska Mohmmed in a dual presentation at this year’s NADA New York, opening Wednesday, May 13 and on view through May 17. We can’t wait to welcome you into the presentation and to share the dialogue between these two artists—distinct voices that meet in their sensitivity to place, gesture, and lived experience.

From our panel at The Petrie Museum of Egyptian and Sudanese Archeology part of the programming for the Sudan Living Cultures initiative’s show, The Land Carries.

During our 4 month research residency we visited several institutions in the UK to learn about and research their colonial history and how they contributed to the extraction of resources and knowledge and continue to benefit from that history. As @sorevolutionary put it so perfectly, we stepped into the ‘engine room’ of the colonial machine. by @dinanursatti

Join me and my dear friend Christine Alfred (@dakini.kiki) next Thursday at @saabrooklyn for an evening that explores the intelligence of the energy body through the lens of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy.

The gathering will open with an intimate conversation between us, followed by a dharma talk (knowledge share) that illuminates inner and outer methods for achieving freedom, and close with a guided visualization, and sound meditation.

ABOUT CHRISTINE ALFRED

Christine Alfred is a Haitian multidisciplinary artist, meditation teacher, therapeutic sound and energy practitioner, and founder of Awarehouse. Her work lies at the intersection of Earth wisdom practices and Tibetan Buddhist technologies.

It was chronic illness that first brought her to these practices, and what began as a search for healing became a lifelong calling. Christine walks the Red Road as a way of life, alongside a study of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy that parallels the core curriculum of a Geshe (Doctor of Theology) in Tibetan Buddhist monasteries.

Her teachers remain a living presence in her practice, which fuels her devotion to creating art and spaces that support others in illuminating their potential.

We’re back with a very special Artist Salon on Wednesday June 10th at @saabrooklyn featuring Ifrah F. Ahmed (@ifahmed).

Ifrah is a Somali-born chef, author, and artist whose work centers around food, history, memory and migration. Her critically acclaimed debut cookbook ‘SOOMAALIYA’ is one of the first major cookbooks to focus on Somali cuisine.

In this iteration we will discuss Ifrah’s journey, the research behind her book, as well as the importance of cultural preservation as an act of resilience and remembering for displaced communities.

Signed books will be available to order at the event.

Last night, Montague Contemporary celebrated our inaugural presentation at NADA New York. We were fortunate to be joined by a the extraordinary gathering of artists, collectors, curators, musicians, and friends in celebration of our presentation with Dina Nur Satti and Miska Mohmmed.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us for an evening shaped by conversation, music, movement, and community — featuring a vibey Afrobeats set by @lovebonezbaby, traditional Sudanese food shared throughout the night, and cocktails generously provided by @juliagin, whose spirit of diasporic connection and celebration resonated beautifully with the evening.

Tomorrow!

Dina Nur Satti builds her ceramic vessels entirely by hand — one coil at a time, using the ancient technique that has been passed down across the African continent for millennia. Her practice draws from the pre-colonial ritual traditions of the Nile Valley and the pottery lineage of the kingdom of Kush, one of the earliest civilisations in human history. The vessels she makes are not decorative objects. They are instruments — containers shaped to hold ancestral memory, cultural transmission, and spiritual inheritance in material form.

Born in Chad and raised across France, Kenya, and the United States, Dina brings Sudanese and Somali heritage to a practice rooted in the deepest currents of African material culture. Her work has entered the permanent collections of the Saint Louis Art Museum, the High Museum of Art, and the Brooklyn Museum. She has been named to Architectural Digest Middle East’s AD100 in both 2024 and 2025. She was also the inaugural artist in residence at our No. 2 Main residency in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts — a homecoming of sorts for a practice so grounded in land and place.

We are presenting her work tomorrow at our inaugural presentation at NADA New York alongside Miska Mohmmed. Come see it.
