Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the annual Meissen Hausemesse dinner.

Once again, Dr. Blaschke, the Director of the Meissen Manufactory, offered a fascinating and profound analysis of how global political and economic developments have shaped the art industry and the luxury sector over the past year. Drawing on his solid academic background in economics, he presented insights that were not only intellectually stimulating, but also highly relevant to the future of the Meissen brand.

Building on last year’s emphasis on modernizing and rejuvenating Meissen’s products, he further developed his vision this year: How can a heritage brand establish a meaningful connection with younger generations? For every Meissen distributor, this question carries significance on both a micro and macro level, offering valuable guidance for understanding the future direction of the brand and the market.

For me, one of the most impressive highlights of this year’s exhibition was undoubtedly The Monet Book, designed and painted by Silvia Haußner and her colleagues.

At only 18 × 13 cm, the book presents an extraordinary technical challenge. Reproducing Monet’s works so faithfully on porcelain within such a small format requires not only exceptional technical precision, but also an extraordinary level of artistic expertise and craftsmanship. The result is truly remarkable.

During the dinner, the head of Meissen’s marketing department raised a thought-provoking question: How should we choose between tradition and innovation?

The artist’s answer was simple yet profound:

“Today’s innovation is tomorrow’s tradition.”

Perhaps these words capture one of the fundamental reasons why Meissen has remained standing for more than 300 years. Tradition does not mean refusing to change. Rather, it is the ability to transform today’s innovation into the tradition of tomorrow.

Beyond the extraordinary works of art, what made this evening particularly memorable were the insightful analyses, inspiring ideas, and thoughtful answers shared throughout the event. @silvia_fineart
