To my favourite human…

Congratulations for making 40 laps around the sun.

In the last year, I have seen you preparing vehemently to enter what I think will be your golden era. You shine at what you do, and you love the people around you so passionately.

To me, you are the answer to many a silent prayer, and just as many not so silent ones.

Happiest birthday @rd.idewani.zaini!!

I, we all, love you! by @dino_omar

It’s father’s day.

But my father has left me. It’s been 29 days and I still cannot find the right words to describe this experience. In truth, in my mind, he is still around. It just doesn’t feel like he’s… gone.

Maybe one day, when I have it all figured out, I’ll tell you about what a great man my father is. Was. But for now, today, I will keep those thoughts, those memories, just for myself. I wanna keep it between my dad and I, just the two of us, just a little bit longer.

That last slide. 18th May. We watched Top Gun. He took me to the pictures to watch it when it came out in 1986. That was when I decided to be a pilot. (But I changed my career path to Palaeontologist when my dad took me to watch Jurassic Park some time later.) Then when it was just me and him, just the two of us, in the hospital on that Monday evening, we watched Top Gun again. That was the last movie you watched, our last thing together.

Dad, you’re still around right? Like, I can just pick up the phone and call you, right?

Dad?

In moments like today, I am very grateful for technology. The vision of you flourishing in your adult years no longer needs to be a mere slice of my imagination. It is not the truth, but I’ll take it nonetheless. Beggars can’t be choosers—especially when I have been robbed of your company for eighteen years now.

So thank you, technology.

And happy birthday you.

See you again soon, in AI, or the next life.
