🚨 Speaker announcement 🚨

Meet Jimmy Waldron, MA.Ed. — paleontologist, science educator, and founder of Dinosaurs Will Always Be Awesome (DWABA, Inc.), Central Florida’s first and only NAICS-accredited Mobile Dinosaur Museum.

Jimmy is a co-author on the discovery of Ichthyotitan severnensis (yes… a giant swimming reptile), and he’s bringing hands-on paleontology to schools and communities that are often too far for traditional field trips.

His core idea:
Science isn’t about what we know — it’s about how we come to know it.
In his TEDxOrlando talk, Jimmy invites all of us into the scientific process so learning becomes active discovery, not passive belief.

🦴 Learn to ask better questions
🔍 Test ideas with evidence
🌍 See yourself as part of a hopeful, evidence-driven future

Drop a 🦖 in the comments to welcome Jimmy to the TEDxOrlando stage!

Hello new and returning followers! I’m Jimmy, and Dinosaurs Will Always Be Awesome!
We’re coming up on our five-year anniversary, so let’s revisit the origin story, and meet some of the important people along the way!

🦖 In 2018, my friend @Dean_R_Lomax and I started a YouTube channel & podcast.
“I want working adults who don’t have time to study this stuff to know that it doesn’t matter what you do, where you’re from, or how old you are… Dinosaurs will always be awesome!”----“Well THAT’S your show!” And #DWABA was born.

🌎 That’s the credo that drives us. Dinosaurs are for everyone, regardless of your age, stature, or where you call home. So over the course of the next few years, I interviewed scientists, researchers, artists and enthusiasts, and brought those experiences to the world in a way that was funny, accessible, and easy-to understand.

🦕 A few global and local challenges later, and the podcast needed to evolve. Now, as an IRS-recognized 501(c)3 Charitable Organization, DWABA now functions primarily as a mobile museum, bringing real and replica fossils to communities that don’t have access to Natural History museums of their own. With a seven-foot tall Apatosaurus femur, twenty different hands-on activities, an icthyosaur from #MaryAnning, and of course #PoeTheDeinonychus, we’re working hard to make the world just a little bit brighter for families and kids of all ages.

🏛 As a nonprofit organization, we rely on donations and grant funding to survive. Visit DWABA.org/donate to see how you can support our mission with your heart, hands and time, or through a corporate giving program at your workplace.

🪑 Meet our Board of Directors:
Jimmy Waldron (@JimmyWaldron) is the founder and Executive Director
Nico Vargas is our Vice Director,
Rose Maldonado is our Community Director
Dean Lomax (@dean_r_lomax) is our Science Director

And with new adventures on the horizon, and discoveries to be made, there’s only one question I need you to answer below:

What’s your favorite dinosaur?!

What can a dinosaur bone teach us about becoming scientists? 🦖

Quite a lot, according to TEDxOrlando speaker Jimmy Waldron.

We asked Jimmy why dinosaurs are such a powerful vehicle for creating citizen scientists — and he brought along something special to demonstrate his answer: the hip bone of an Apatosaurus.

For Jimmy, dinosaurs can be a gateway to curiosity — encouraging people to ask questions, investigate the world around them, and discover that science isn’t something reserved for scientists.

Watch Jimmy explain what we can learn from a piece of a dinosaur that walked the Earth millions of years ago.

Then hear more from Jimmy live at TEDxOrlando: The Space Between on October 17.

Welcome to Oak Street, where the lawns are tidy, the families are complicated, and the dinosaurs are hungry. 🦖

For his latest Nerdspresso column, Jeff Stanford took paleontologist and longtime podcast partner Jimmy Waldron to a preview of The End of Oak Street at the Orlando Science Center.

Jeff found a popcorn adventure somewhere between Spielberg, Bradbury, Poltergeist, and Jurassic Park. Jimmy found scientifically questionable dinosaurs, awkward prehistoric romance, and further evidence that everything has feathers now.
