POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
In my years of work in this region, I have never seen anything like this.

A whole community under the risk of explosion and destruction (to put it mildly).

Every member of my team who stayed less than 24 hours in this community had some form of reaction. I personally have been experiencing severe headaches and eye irritation since last weekend, after spending two days in Bille.

I began to imagine the slow death that may be befalling the people of Bille, and the most critical observation for me is that, till today, since November 2025, @nosdraofficial and other federal agencies have not been able to at least tell us:

The type of gas.
The concentration of the gas.
The actual cause.
The solution.

We are going on one year now.
Meanwhile the oil/gas operation is still going on.

It baffles me, the level of irresponsibility displayed by our agencies, the Rivers State Government, and the Federal Government.

In a sane society, if we had any shred of value for human lives, this entire community would have been sealed off and its people relocated while investigations were ongoing.

But no...

Rice is the solution...
It is beyond appalling...
I am enraged!!!!

Thank You @social.action.sdic and #thepeopleassembly for drawing attention to this.

It’s been over six months of engagements and advocacy for the Special Seats Bill for Women (HB1349).
Working on content development and communications with a remarkable team of people who are passionate about the bill and women’s inclusion has been a gift. And although we await the ultimate goal, the passing of the bill, we have been deeply immersed in the process.

The Gender Desk keeps getting better, driven by the most remarkable team and everyday comes with new lessons.
Thank you, @speakerabbas , for this acknowledgement; and thank you, @yetunde_gold , for your leadership and resilience in ensuring that our efforts are seen.

Fingers crossed…

The backstory behind “Boiling Waters,” a powerful and reflective documentary based on true events in Bille Kingdom, Rivers State, Nigeria, is one rooted in deep passion, empathy, and a desire to tell a story that truly matters.

Our team, graciously hosted by @bille.voice, spent four days immersed in the community.

We wanted to soak it all in. We wanted to listen, observe, connect, and understand what it truly means to live with these realities every single day.

We didn't just want to tell a story from what we had read, heard, or researched. We wanted to experience the community beyond the lens of our cameras.

We needed to translate our HEAD KNOWLEDGE into HEART KNOWLEDGE.

And we did.

Four days could never fully capture a lifetime of lived experiences, but those four days profoundly changed how we understood the story we had come to tell.

Because some stories are not just meant to be told. They are meant to be felt.

We are deeply honoured that this documentary has won the inaugural @africaclimateforum #ClimateStory of the Year Award 2026.

For us, this documentary is more than a film or an award-winning story. It is a reality, a call for awareness, and an urgent appeal for action.

As much as we are grateful for the celebration of the craft and production of this documentary; we also realize that the people of Bille are still living in this harsh Reality and need URGENT HELP!!!!

@africaclimateforum you so much for this honor

For us this honor is beyond us, as much as we recognized the selection criteria and much needed expertise required to bring this story to life, our major focus was to show the world the realities of the people of Bille, which is a reflection of the realities of Niger Delta communities.

Our story is only a small fraction of the full scale of crises experienced by the men, women and children of Bille kingdom; the pain, the fear , the concerns and uncertainty; and in the midst of this, the resilience of the Bille people. People who have buried loved ones, endured seasons of drought, water pollution, air pollution, loss of livelihood, flood, and so many other challenges caused by the operations of Oil companies and greatly amplified by climate change.

This award and honor is dedicated to them.

It is dedicated to the relentless people of Bille Kingdom,
It is dedicated to Miss Joy who lost her life last month from the gas explosion while sleeping on her bed.
It’s dedicated to 13 year old girl who told us to remember her when we share sachet water.

Now What we saw, everyone will see. And beyond the lights, great dresses, amazing ideas, great expressions are people who are battling everyday for survival. People of the creeks, people in coastal communities, Degema, Ahoada, Omok, Soku, Andoni, Khana, Biseni, Gokana, Oyibo, Nembe…. And a whole lot more

Host Communities who have suffered years of neglect, pollution, oil spillage , gas flaring… this is dedicated to you.

And finally,
To the young volunteers at @lincgreen_ , the indegenious people of Bille kingdom who told their story, @bille.voice who partnered with us to bring this story to life and to our fellow African climate story tellers , documentarians, innovators, and activists.

We hope that as we progress, the narrative will change; from one of vulnerability to one of resilience and from one of resilience to one of greatness.

Thank you so much…. And God bless us all. by @diolutobe

Had a really engaging facilitation session with @hyprep_ogonicleanup on environmental storytelling and the power of visuals.

Sometimes, a photograph can say what a report cannot. A single image can capture the condition of a community, the progress of a restoration project, the resilience of a people or even the small signs of change that may be difficult to explain with words.

And in places where years of environmental degradation have created a sense of hopelessness, the right stories can help people see that change is possible. Storytelling can document the problem, but it can also document progress, restore dignity and create hope.

I had the opportunity to facilitate a training for HYPREP field officers, focusing on practical ways to capture stories on the go. We explored how to observe what is happening around us, take meaningful photographs, capture useful videos and turn everyday field activities into compelling photo stories.

It was not just about taking good pictures. It was about understanding what the picture is saying, whose story we are telling and why that story matters.

From a restoration site to a community meeting, from the people doing the work to the communities experiencing the change, every frame can become part of a bigger story about Ogoniland.

I enjoyed sharing some of the storytelling techniques I have picked up from years of documenting communities and environmental issues across the Niger Delta.

Sometimes, you do not need a thousand words. You just need to capture the right moment. by @diolutobe

Had an amazing facilitation session with @hyprep_ogonicleanup sharing thoughts, techniques and practical ideas around storytelling for environmental restoration and community impact.

Environmental work is often filled with technical reports, data, assessments and scientific findings. These are important, but beyond the numbers are real people, real communities and real stories.

For HYPREP, where the work is focused on the restoration of Ogoniland, storytelling becomes an important way to document not just the scale of the environmental challenges, but also the journey of restoration, the resilience of communities, the people doing the work, the changes taking place and the hope for a healthier environment.

We live in a generation where a powerful photograph, a short video or a well told story can take an issue from a community in Ogoniland to audiences across Nigeria and the world.

The goal is not simply to tell stories, but to tell them creatively, accurately, responsibly and in a way that puts people and their experiences at the centre.

It was a great session of sharing, learning and exchanging ideas, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the important work of environmental restoration in Ogoniland. by @diolutobe

COLORED CONVERSATIONS WAS MORE THAN A CONVERSATION… IT WAS A JOURNEY OF HEALING 🎨

Our Colored Conversations was beyond awesome. It was deep, relevant, and incredibly intimate.

It brought together people from different backgrounds, experiences, and walks of life, creating a safe space where thoughts, emotions, stories, and even pain could be expressed, transformed, and painted into something meaningful. Inspired by the beautiful vision of @rootedrising1 and the idea of painting the change we want to see, every voice became a colour, every story became a brushstroke, and every experience added beauty to the bigger picture.

Our participants came with burdens, and they left pieces of those burdens behind.

We did not come to teach. We came to listen. We came to understand. We came to learn. And the amazing people who shared their stories, emotions, and experiences completely transformed us.

To our hosts and founders of this initiative, @mizcjay & @diolutobe , we say a heartfelt thank you. This was born out of necessity, and we believe the impact will continue to grow.

To our incredible speakers who showed vulnerability, courage, and authenticity; @phchurchgirl @gift_meelubari @hon.atosemi @inspirationwithlinda @doubrah_samuel @serenafrancis.h @eera_o , thank you for bringing your voices, your stories, and your hearts into this space.

To our coordinators @nancywritess and all our amazing volunteers, thank you for making this possible. This is only the beginning, but the process has started, and together we will continue creating spaces where people can become healed, heard, and whole.

This moment here was refreshing, beyond words and I’m grateful to all my friends who joined me on this healing journey; with amazing young people as we shared thoughts around trauma, gender based violence, feminism and healing.

Hosting, this great meeting with @mizcjay and @adopt_initiative which we co-found was a great decision.

Thank you @gift_meelubari @phchurchgirl @inspirationwithlinda @doubrah_samuel @serenafrancis.h @eera_o @hon.atosemi and every single person who was part of this process.

We need more of this safe spaces…..

In Bille, the effects of pollution are not distant headlines, they are part of everyday life.

@diolutobe explores how gas emissions and environmental degradation affect the community’s waters and people, while highlighting the realities communities face at the intersection of climate and environmental justice.

Their experiences remind us that climate action must begin with listening to the communities living on the frontlines and continue with accountability, restoration, and lasting change.

37 men went mining for gold. They came back in body bags. Nigeria why

Arrested for "illegal mining" in Niger State. Days later, found dead in an overcrowded NSCDC cell-no air, no water, their screams ignored.

Their crime? Digging for gold that, by law, was never theirs to begin with.

Last week, @actionaidnigeria Nigeria, @gada_nigeria, and other organizations were at the forefront of advocacy and action in commemoration of Climate Action Week.

I spoke in a series of webinars that were realistic, unscripted, thought-provoking, and impactful. The conversations were honest, reflecting the realities we face while exploring possible pathways toward a more sustainable and just future.

We may not be where we desire to be yet, but as we continue to share ideas, challenge existing approaches, and rethink our understanding of development, I believe we will get closer.

Hope is not lost. We simply need to #RethinkDevelopment. by @diolutobe

We need to take small breaks…..
