Save this guide for your next trip to Abu Simbel 🇪🇬

Abu Simbel temple is one of the Egypt’s iconic temples showcasing the power of ancient Egypt. It was built over 3000 years ago by Pharaoh Ramses II.

⏰ Best time to visit:
The temple faces east so early morning is the golden window. It’s also best time to skip the heat and crowds. Allow atleast 2 hours to explore the whole complex.

🚘 How to get there:
You can take the convoy or private ride from Aswan - takes around 3 hours. The site opens around sunrise and being among the first to arrive is a truly surreal.

🛌 Where to Stay:
We stayed in Aswan and did a day trip to Abu Simbel. But if you stay overnight, you’ll enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and it let’s you experience the temple after the day trippers leave.

✨Fun Fact:
This temple was relocated in 1960 stone by stone to save it from rising waters of Nile. It was designed with a solar alignment that occurs twice a year. The sun rays penetrate through the temple illuminating the inner sanctuary. The solar alignment still works to this day. This architectural marvel has been listed as the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.

The Great Pyramids of Giza - one of the last surviving wonders of the ancient world are even more awe-inspiring in person. To truly soak in their magic without the crowds, timing and planning are key.

📅 Best Time to Visit:
To experience the pyramids in their most serene state, aim for early mornings or late afternoons.

🔹 Early Morning Tip:
Arrive right at 7:00 AM when the complex opens. Instead of the main tourist gate, walk in through the quieter Sphinx pedestrian entrance. It’s peaceful, especially before 8:00 AM, when most tour buses arrive. You’ll have a moment of stillness with these 4,500 year old marvels.

🔹 Late Afternoon Hack:
Book a table for 3:00 PM at Khufu’s Restaurant located inside the archaeological zone. After a leisurely meal, step out around 4:30 PM, most of the crowd will be gone, and you’ll enjoy the golden hour with nearly empty views of the pyramids.

🍴 Where to Eat with a View:
• Khufu’s Restaurant – Traditional Egyptian dishes right inside the complex. Book in advance!
• 9 Pyramids Lounge – A nearby spot with sweeping views, perfect for a late breakfast or sunset tea.

🏨 Where to Stay:
We stayed at the charming Pyramids Boutique Hotel – a quiet gem just minutes from the site. The rooftop terrace gives you an unbeatable view of the pyramids, and the food was honestly delicious. A perfect mix of authenticity and comfort.

✨ Fun Fact:
The Great Pyramid of Khufu was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years. Standing before it in the stillness of early morning or golden evening is nothing short of magical.
