Some photos from week 1 of the annual Jersey Shore vacation with my folks. On Monday, I went to Six Flags for the first time in 20-sum years. I also caught a couple two three sunrises on the beach, found a yummy black & white cookie in Avon, and finished reading Stoner. Now I’m re-reading my beach classic, Ball Four, which never gets old—though my copy has seen better days. by @dirbab

some photos from the last couple weeks—most of which you may have already seen. two weeks ago, I shaved my head and I took a flick on one of my cemetery walks, which I found out was pretty strange. yesterday I rode my bike to ft tilden and burnt my dogs, since I rode there in my bedrock chanclas. not sure the weird tan lines were worth the pain. what else.. jimmy’s corner and spumoni gardens are goated nyc institutions and sean durzi is a new york ranger. also the b&w cookie from empire cake was very unique, and yummy. by @dirbab

This past month made the city feel new again. I didn’t grow up a basketball fan, but the New York Knicks winning the chip still feels like a dream. I even went to the parade, where the entire city felt electric. The following day, I went on my inaugural bike ride to the beach. It was a group ride with new friends who seemed strangely familiar, and it reminded me very much of my early days in New York. I spent Father’s Day with my family in Secaucus, and I may have started up a new Saturday night post-mass-dinner-in-the-park ritual. This past weekend, I walked to the Mets game and saw OG Anunoby throw out the first pitch. I even scored a black & white cookie and a hot coffee—two things I never imagined finding at the ballpark. The days have felt full, in a way I appreciate more as I get older. I’m beginning to think that much of life is simply noticing which small things are worth returning to. I finished reading Confederacy of Dunces and I’m bummed it’s over. I liked reading about the life and times of the working boy Ignatius. by @dirbab

I’ve always felt that friendship is where human nature is at its sweetest, and this past week was one I won’t soon forget. It began with a couple nights in Brigantine with @eric_from_nj who is visiting from Carlsbad—we even got to paddle out together and catch some waves. After that, a real long drive inside a car to visit @planktonblakton in the mountains of West Virginia. Mother Nature out there is incredible and it was rad spending time together in his cabin. I excitedly watched the Knicks historic game 4 comeback on my phone and I read a little more about the working boy, Ignatius. On the drive home, we stopped at a Buc-ees in Virginia. It was massive. by @dirbab

The second half of April was #prettysweet. I didn’t set any records, but I’m back on the bike and finding a healthy balance of walking and riding—fun walks only! I saw some great shows, I also made some new friends, and I got into ironing. by @dirbab

no reason to wait all month to share some moments from the last couple weeks—started riding my bike to work and it’s been nice! the bicycle commute also allows for more fun~ walks, since the walking commute was becoming a bit of a drag. I’m most excited for warm temps this coming week. there’s nothing like spring vibes in new york city. by @dirbab

we got our first later sunset of the season. I also made it back down to philly for the bike expo and had a fantastic dinner with amber, lacy, and phoebe—this time at tacconelli’s, which somehow felt even more special than pica’s did last year. I’m still walking a bunch, and noticing things I’ve passed hundreds of times on my bike, including a REVS piece I never clocked before. finally picked up a fountain pen, which has me even more giddy to write in my journal. I also made another hat, saw glitterer, and caught the annual RAD screening in a nearly empty theater in secaucus, which was a treat. the other day, I walked out to flushing for opening day and had the best time. it was my first time walking to a Mets game, and the walk itself was half the fun. ended the month on a random high note—went to Rangers vs Devils on a whim and got to see a rare goalie fight. walked home from the garden, which landed me at 328 miles walked in March. by @dirbab

we got a couple feet of snow, but today we saw temps in the 60s and the clocks jumped ahead. I also went snowboarding for the first time this season and finally got my platypus back together. I almost forgot what a treat it is to ride that bike. speaking of treats, I’m still very much on that black & white cookie kick. by @dirbab

think I might keep the monthly hardpost goin. since my last hp, I got my cast removed and pins extracted—which was major, since the cast made everything more challenging. my thumb isn’t fully healed, but I’m able to move it a bit and finally shower without a bag on my arm and all that. been getting into jazz lately, and my b&w cookie craving remains strong. also got a new laundry routine. by @dirbab

this year I made quieter changes that added up: fewer escapes, steadier habits, more care for my body and spirit. grateful for progress, not perfection. feeling more grounded than I have in a long time. by @dirbab
