There are so many things that I love about this movie. And there are many things that I simply can’t put into words.

What I love most about HEAT is that Michael Mann shows the humanity of cops and criminals by letting us into their homes with them. While we see the exciting heists of the criminals and the tense chases of the cops, what happens inside their homes is a different story.

What lies beneath the “cool” is something universally relatable. A couple fights while another yearns to spend a normal night with their partner. Another wants to throw it all away but holds on to a dead-end job with a corrupt manager because his woman believes that he can be good. A cop is so engulfed in his work that he’s struggling to keep his third marriage alive. A criminal mastermind pretends to be happy being alone but desperately wants to feel loved, while struggling to keep himself detached in case he has to split in 30 seconds flat.

HEAT is much more than a crime flick to me. It’s a deeper look into the lives of characters living in extraordinary circumstances, only to find out that many of them go through the same struggles as us. Just as Vincent and Neil realize they are more alike than they thought over coffee, we realize that these characters are more like us than we thought. Michael Mann’s brilliance is not just the unparalleled mood of his films, but his deeply humane understanding of everyday human beings.

I’m not sure how or why I started writing this, but I thought I’d appreciate one of my favourite directors while he’s still around. If you haven’t already watched this masterpiece, do yourself a favour and experience it. I hope to make a movie half as good as this one someday. by @dirbydin

Sweetening Part 2! Back by popular demand, here's more of what we did last week, except now we ditch the clarinets and winds instruments and move to the percussion section. Groovy. Less cowbell

iPhone Photos really knows how to take you down the memory lane. Five years ago today, I started filming my tribute to the Spaghetti Westerns with a few friends. Ennio Morricone had passed away a year before, and I wanted to pay tribute to his memory with this short film.

Fast forward five years, and my love for westerns has only grown stronger. As Sergio Corbucci once said, “Nothing is as cinematic as a man in a cowboy outfit riding toward the sunset on a horse.” We didn’t have the budget for a horse, but we sure as hell captured some unforgettable sunset shots.

That’s a wrap on the “Mathakayan” Tour across Vancouver, Edmonton & Toronto.

It was a privilege to perform alongside Sri Lankan artists, Chamara Weerasinghe, Bachi Susan, Amelia Wijesooriya, Anuradha Perrera & Dayan Witarana during their Canadian Tour.

Thank you to @can_naada for giving me this opportunity to perform at this scale and for everyone who helped make this concert series a massive success.

Finally, and most importantly, thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and showed up to support all of the shows!
