The Tools Foundation Workshop gives directors a practical, proven system for communicating with actors, shaping truthful performances, and bringing every scene to life with greater confidence and precision.

“I constantly use Adrienne’s Tools to unlock strong, grounded and refreshing performances take after take.”
-Jennifer Getzinger, Director

Your camera won’t direct your actors.

Neither will your lenses, lighting, or budget.

It’s the way you communicate with actors that will determine whether your performances feel truthful—or forgettable.

“Adrienne’s methodology provided me with the most helpful and concrete tools for directing actors I have ever encountered. I use them—and her philosophy on the relationship between directors and actors—every day.”
— Janus Metz, 2025 Emmy nominee and director of Borg vs McEnroe, All the Old Knives, ZeroZeroZero, True Detective, and Armadillo (Critics’ Week Grand Prize, Cannes)

Join Adrienne Weiss in London and learn the 10 fundamental Tools that transform the way directors work with actors and bring truth to the screen.

📍 London | October 9–18, 2026

We are beyond proud of our alumni @mikaylaashe Her short film Searching for Color just won Best Student Short at the Diversity in Cannes Showcase — and this one means everything.

Mikayla has shared that her journey to USC and through the program wouldn’t have been possible without the mentorship of our wonderful Brad Barnes who made time to meet with her, provide advice and even brought her into his Directing Actors workshops.
It was in his Directing Practicum that Mikayla wrote in her journal: “You know that directing is what you need to do.” Mikayla realized that directing was her call attending while Brad’s workshop.

That realization carried her all the way to Cannes.

In Mikayla’s words: “Brad, you are one of my role models, and I deeply admire the way you think and the person you are. I’ll be carrying you with me as I start my next chapter”.

We are incredibly proud of you, Mikayla.

It’s one thing to hear about the Tools Foundation Workshop - it’s another to hear them in action🎙️

We love seeing our alumni @mounia.akl sharing her experience on the @thegoingrogueclub podcast.

We highly recommend listening to her full conversation on the @thegoingrogueclub podcast to learn more about her process and what she learned about Directing Actors from studying with Adrienne Weiss.

Curious about what’s coming next? Check out our schedule and explore all the details for our upcoming workshop—we can’t wait to see you there!

Alumni Spotlight 🎬

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate our alum @henry.behel whose one of the films he directed has now become an Apple Original!

Henry’s creative journey is remarkable.
What started as an idea became a script…..then a film. And now it’s reaching audiences around the world.

Henry took the Tools Foundation Workshop in LA led by the incredible Brad Barnes.

And this is why we nurture our directors, why we teach The Tools, and why our community matters.

Support one of our own by hitting play, spreading the word and celebrating this amazing achievement.

And a quick reminder:
The last Tools Foundation of 2025 taught by Bard Barnes is starting on December 4 in Los Angeles and there are only a few spots open and once they are gone, that’s it until next year.
If you’ve been waiting, considering the idea of attending our signature workshop, debating….well, this might be the right time.

Reach out via DM or email us:
directingactors.asst@gmail.com

We are here for you.
