The horror section of my latest short film “Big Break” I described this section to the crew and department heads as Rylee’s “descent into hell” in the midst of her full blown panic attack. The idea was to heighten a panic attack to the most extreme and “horrific” version of it and play to the idea that the demonic version of herself she sees in the mirror is the “monster in her head” and was a great excuse to bring in my favorite genre of horror into the overall dramedic tone of the film. A major shoutout to the absolutely phenomenal practical Special Effects Makeup by @plazticpatrick on our lead actress @saraspad . And a shoutout to @bossvfxstudio for augmenting the eyes with VFX. The best combo of predominantly practical effects augmented by visual effects. I am so excited to finally release my short film “Big Break, that I wrote and directed. An @ominous_entertainment and @tiny.machine production that I produced with my good friend @_jcfalcon and starring another great friend @saraspad This one has been a year in the making and examines the intense pressures we put on ourselves as artists. Big Break is premiering this Friday at 1PM PST. Stay tuned for the full release! 🤩 by @director_joro
A teaser for the last section of my latest commercial directing gig for a coffee company, “My Kingdom Koffee”. The spot was entitled “Fuel the Change” and was shot on location in Entebbe, Uganda in East Africa. I really love this ending section that creates a “hurricane-like” montage of quick edits, paired with post zooms and slow motion speed ramping or “retiming”. We wanted to create a very fast recap of the entire video before it, but only within a few seconds. Message or comment if you would like to see the full spot! A teaser for the first minute of the intro of one of my latest commercial directing gigs for a coffee company, “My Kingdom Koffee”. The spot was entitled “Fuel the Change” and was shot on location in Entebbe, Uganda in East Africa. We had a small but mighty team on this one and I am eternally grateful to My Kingdom Koffee for entrusting us with the vision and the incredible crew and creative team on this spot. Message or comment if you would like to see the full spot! I am perhaps the most proud of the score that @philipgandersonmusic put together, using ambient audio of our amazing voice over artist Jane Majale singing a traditional African song that we integrated into the score that you hear and that is her voice we kept in the music. It was the adventure of a lifetime to visit Africa and meet the most beautiful spirit of humanity along the way in Uganda. Thank you to every person included in this video and a big thanks to my oldest friend @gbackstrom for bringing me on. Creative Treatment and Producing: Jordan A. It exposes the reality that we’re all performing for someone at some point. Look out for the short, coming soon! by @director_joro
Last year @_jcfalcon and I wanted to capture the feeling of the year of 2020, at least what it meant to us as closely and intimately as we could in a video. The uncertainties, anxieties and frustrations all pent up within our heads for what dragged from months and months, into a year and beyond. What we sought to create was a visual poem to encapsulate these feelings. We wanted it to be as loose and free as it possibly could, with no roadmap on the style or content. A big thank you to a small but impressive team that shot this in the heart of Winter in the midst of a pandemic and for our star Bronte (@bascoggins ) who willingly jumped into the Pacific Ocean in late December at 5AM! We even had a water damaged camera from the ocean as a casualty in the process. I sincerely hope you find this piece meaningful. It genuinely was for me. I’m truly in awe of the transcendent work that @sam.costello creates both musically and through sound design. I listened to the latest iteration of this song in a cafe and it brought tears to my eyes. Sam created this beautiful original track for this project and even reworked some old variations on the song along with embedding it into the sound design to really bring life to the piece and make it breathe. The track itself will be released as a single alongside the video. Both are dropping within the next week so be on the lookout for where you can download or stream the single! Go show Sam some love and hire him for the amazing work that he does and support the incredible work he is doing. Also look out for the full video of Visual Reflection of the times, dropping soon! #vrott #cinema #visualpoem #2020 #directing #music #sounddesign by @director_joro
