A timeless classic, seen through a different lens.

For Negroni Week, we stepped into Lilibet’s Mayfair to capture the ritual behind the drink the movement, the texture, the light and those small details that make a cocktail feel cinematic.

KRÓL × Lilibet’s.

From the first pour to the slow rotation of the mixing glass, every shot was built around the craft of the Negroni. Close-ups of the liquid hitting the ice, reflections across the glass, the movement of the stir, the final pour and that moment when everything comes together.

Dark tones. Sharp highlights. Slow movement.
A little atmosphere between every frame.

The aim was never just to show a cocktail — but to capture the feeling of being there. The sound of the ice, the weight of the glass, the rhythm of the bartender and the character of the room at Lilibet’s.

A classic cocktail.
A cinematic setting.
A new perspective.

DRINKS PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS NEGRONI WEEK EDITION 🍊📸

Shooting drinks is all about changing your approach to the same subject. Different lenses, angles, light and moments can completely change the final image.

For the pour, don’t wait for the drink to be still. Shoot the movement, experiment with timing and use shutter speed to either freeze the liquid or keep some motion in the frame.

For the garnish, change your angle and get closer. A macro lens can turn citrus texture, herbs, ice and condensation into the main subject rather than just a finishing detail.

I also like switching focal lengths throughout a shoot. A 24–70mm works well for showing the drink within its environment, while a macro or tighter focal length lets you isolate the smaller details.

Then change the light, composition and perspective. Sometimes moving the camera a few centimetres or changing the light direction is enough to create a completely different image.

Same drink. Different lens. Different angle. Different moment. Completely different image.

For our latest Four Roses Bourbon film at Juls,London, the focus was less on simply documenting the cocktail and more on creating a visual language around it.

Layering wide compositions with intimate macro frames, using controlled movement, natural textures and low-light contrast to make every stage of the process feel tactile.

From the geometry of the bar to the movement of the pour, the reflection through the glass and the smallest details caught at 65mm every shot was composed to give the drink its own atmosphere.

The film moves between scale and perspective, letting the viewer experience the cocktail from the environment around it to the details within it.

A cinematic approach to cocktail storytelling, built frame by frame.

7 Summer Drink Campaign Photography Tips 🍸📸

Every successful drinks campaign is built on a few visual principles that guide the viewer’s eye, create emotion and tell a story before a single sip is taken.

Here are the 7 techniques I use when photographing cocktails, spirits and hospitality brands.

① Pour Shots
Movement instantly transforms a static product into a story. Capturing the pour adds energy, emotion and creates a frame that naturally grabs attention.

② The Final Touch
The garnish isn’t just decoration it’s proof of craftsmanship. Photographing that final moment makes the drink feel fresh, premium and carefully made.

③ Build With Balance
Every element in the frame should have a purpose. Position your hero drink first, then build the composition around it using supporting props, negative space and visual weight.

④ Focus On Details
Condensation, glass texture, citrus oils, foam, reflections and hands all communicate quality. These subtle details often become the reason someone stops scrolling.

⑤ Light Direction
Light shapes the mood. Side lighting creates depth, shadows reveal texture and carefully controlled highlights make bottles and glassware feel premium.

⑥ Layering Creates Depth
Think in foreground, midground and background. Layering your scene creates dimension and guides the viewer naturally through the image instead of showing everything at once.

⑦ Color Harmony
A cohesive colour palette ties the entire campaign together. Matching ingredients, props, labels and backgrounds creates a polished visual identity that feels intentional from start to finish.

Great campaign photography isn’t about documenting a cocktail.

It’s about creating a feeling that makes people want to order it before they’ve even tasted it. taken in London, United Kingdom by @dirtyjigger

Tequila behind the frame.

Every drink shoot starts with light.
Before I even press record, I’m shaping reflections on the glass and deciding how the liquid should catch the highlights.

For this one I used the @canonuk R5 Mark II with a @venuslaowa 100mm macro lens.
The macro isn’t just about getting closer it’s about revealing the details most people never notice.
The condensation, the texture in the liquid, the way light bends through the glass.

Lighting was built using my @godox_global kit to create contrast and separation.
Cocktails need depth without controlled light they can look flat very quickly.

I monitored everything through a @hollylandtech monitor so I could refine focus and composition precisely on set.
Small adjustments make a big difference at this scale.

The BTS setup rarely looks impressive.
Stands, flags, tweaks, tiny movements.

But when the foundation is right,
the final frame feels effortless.

The drink stays the same.
The execution changes how it’s perceived. taken in London, United Kingdom by @dirtyjigger

Cocktail photography in 6 steps.

1. Set the light.
Light defines the mood before colour ever does.
Directional light reveals depth, while shadows create dimension.
Without intentional lighting, texture disappears.

2. Choose the glass and angle.
Glassware shapes perception instantly.
A low angle adds presence.
A side angle reveals layers.
Perspective changes character.

3. Focus on texture.
Ice clarity, condensation and reflections create realism.
Close detail adds richness.
This is where the drink starts to feel tactile.

4. Capture the motion.
The pour, the stir, the garnish in motion.
Movement brings energy into the frame.
Timing matters more than speed.

5. Frame the hero shot.
This is the drink at rest.
Balanced, intentional, complete.
The image guests remember.

6. Build the atmosphere.
Background light, shadows and setting shape emotion.
A drink without context is just a product.
Atmosphere turns it into an experience.

The cocktail stays the same.
The way it’s shown changes everything.
