WHAT TO EXPECT? 🪩

This Friday we’re taking over @melbournemuseum for a little journey through the history of Italian dance music!

And when we say Italian classics, we don’t just mean the songs everyone knows.

We’re talking about the funky sounds of Naples and the Mediterranean in the 70s, when Italian musicians were mixing jazz, soul, African rhythms and American funk with their own musical traditions.

The golden age of Italian discotheques, from Baia degli Angeli to Cosmic, where DJs like Daniele Baldelli were breaking the rules, mixing disco, Afro, funk and electronic music into something completely new.

Then came the synthesizers, drum machines and the explosion of Italo Disco in the 80s, followed by Italy’s contribution to house music in the late 80s and 90s.

And finally, a new generation of artists bringing those sounds back to life, from Nu Genea to the incredible underground scene coming out of Naples and all over Italy today.

A bit of history, plenty of forgotten gems, some familiar classics and lots of dancing.

Because Italian music has always been so much more than Volare and Sarà perché ti amo ❤️

It's time to say goodbye to @melbournemuseum's 'ROME: Empire, Power, People' exhibition when it closes on Sunday, October 25. But before it does, the museum is following up its sold-out Italian-inspired party from earlier this year with a new instalment: Discoteca Italiana Arrivederci Roma.

This one-night-only affair brings feel-good disco, Italo house, Latin grooves and global rhythms to the museum, headlined by @discomediterranea and @thedworddj. Fresh back from Italy, Disco Mediterranea are ready to bring some Sicilian sunshine to the depths of Fitzroy winter.

On headline duties for the DJs this Saturday we welcome our old Moor street neighbours and dear friends @discomediterranea for a midnight 3 hour set 🪩

Disco Mediterranea is a Melbourne-based DJ collective and cultural project bringing sun-drenched Italo Disco, funky house, and Latin grooves to the dancefloor. Founded by Luca Muscato after moving from Palermo to Melbourne, the crew has become a staple in the city’s nightlife, with residencies at Whitehart, Section 8, and Runner Up Rooftop. Their sets channel Mediterranean warmth and community spirit, turning every party into a cross-cultural celebration.

On Saturday 11 July, High Ground teams up with The StandardX Melbourne for a special afternoon session in the heart of Fitzroy.

To warm up for their upcoming headline set at The Evelyn this August, Disco Mediterranea will soundtrack the afternoon, delivering a two hour rooftop set On Top from 4pm–6pm stacked with their signature sun soaked selections.

Entry is free but capacity is very limited, so arrive early!

Café Mediterraneo — the last squeeze of summer 🍅
