A Barolo tradition experience at @uniquetravel.fi Giro di Langhe 2026 in historic 1885 @brezza.hotelristorantebarolo - a classic lunch experience.

Just steps from the village centre, the family’s winery, restaurant & Hotel Barolo bring generations of winemaking & hospitality together. The restaurant celebrates Piedmontese cooking through handmade tajarin, agnolotti del plin & seasonal truffles, with a terrace overlooking Barolo’s castle and surrounding vineyards. Decades of tradition are tasted on every single bite - delicious, timeless & tasty 😋

The Lunch wine highlights:

The estate’s only white wine, 2025 Chardonnay, offers a distinctive departure from Brezza’s focus on traditional Piedmontese varieties.

An organic Brezza Barolo DOCG 2019 from vineyards in Barolo, Monforte d’Alba & Novello, allows the Nebbiolo’s grape character to remain central. - red berries, floral notes, lively acidity and firm, finely structured tannins.

Today @saksanviinit organises Let’s talk about Sekt -event for professionals.

🇩🇪Sekt is currently one of Europe’s most fascinating sparkling-wine stories. It represent various alternative & very different worlds.

At one end are major industrial producers such as Rotkäppchen-Mumm, Henkell Freixenet and Schloss Wachenheim, produce hundreds of millions of bottles across broad international portfolios.

At the other end, a quality revolution is reshaping the category. Producers such as @sekthaus_raumland , @grieselsekt @krack_sekthaus, @Kessler_sekt, @vaux_sekt and @strauchsektmanufaktur are focusing on traditional-method wines, German-grown grapes, long lees ageing and increasingly precise vineyard origins.

🇩🇪 is one of the world’s major sparkling-wine markets, although consumption has declined with 14% from roughly 373 million 🍾 in 2019 to around 320 million in 2025.

Perhaps German Sekt’s future may depend less on making more bubbles than giving those bubbles a clearer origin?

Riesling gives 🇩🇪 a genuinely distinctive sparkling identity, while Pinot Noir, Chardonnay & Pinot Blanc drive more Champagne-inspired styles.

I would frame modern German Sekt as three overlapping categories:

1. Branded mass Sekt: large-scale, usually tank-fermented, price-sensitive and supermarket-driven.

2. Premium branded Sekt: greater focus on method, ageing and heritage.

3. Fine-wine Sekt / Winzersekt – increasingly VDP estates: origin, vineyard, vintage, long lees ageing and low dosage in core. This third group is tiny in volume but probably strongest for Germany’s international image.

🇩🇪 Sekt might be following a path similar to the Riesling renaissance: moving from price, sweetness and terminology toward producer, provenance and vineyard.

The biggest possible challenge is that “Sekt” still covers everything from a €4 supermarket bottle to a €70+ single-vineyard prestige wine.

Perhaps the next chapter is clear: less emphasis on volume, more on origin, producer identity and quality.

@uniquetravel.fi Tour de Central Loir wine travel brought us to some very special wineries. Day2 started at Vouvray star Marc Bredif.

Marc Bredif
Founded in 1893 as Château les Roches, the house took Marc Brédif’s name in 1919 and became an early pioneer of Vouvray pétillant. Bredif is also well known for its old Chenin reserves dating back until 1874. Some of the oldest family gems were saved from the nazi occupation during WW2 by a fakewall in the cave.

Today, its Chenin Blanc range stretches from dry, single-vineyard Vigne Blanche to late-harvest Nectar, produced only in exceptional vintages. Producing 50% sparkling Vouvray & 50% still wines of which 80% whites almost never with oak and 20% red Chinon, Saumur Champigny & Bourgueil.

@uniquetravel.fi Tour de Loire Day 2 shifts to day 3. Yesterday was all senses experience of superb Chenins and reds at @instantbredif. Different faces of modern Chenin from 3 years bottle feemented brut to long aged single parcel Villes Blanches Reseve Privee to medium sweet slightly botrytised Grande Annee. The question after the tasting was which fruit can you not detect on different appearance of Chenin - one of the most fascinating white grapes.

Cave restaurant lunch @gueuleton operated since 1970s by the family operating already 5th gen the Domaine de Cray in @vinsdemontlouis was tasty bbq experience.

@plou_et_fils centuries old (since 1508) 23 gen dedication for grape growing at the tiny 110 Touraine-Amboise AOP revealed the charm of Gamay and Côt (local name for Malbec) as well as delicious whites And sparklings.

Dinner @casse_caillouxrestotours with the best @starwinelist 🇫🇷 short winelist 2024 & 25 was tasty finish for the fantastic day. Élodie and Mathieu Laurendeau have operated this gastronomic gem soon for a decade and care, passion and dedication is discovered in every sip and bite. Elodie secured our attention by serving the dishes matched wines blind and Mathiue led the kitchen ligher Jagger leads the Rolling Stones.

The energic and youthful nigthlife of Tours didnt make it easy to finish the day😆

Day3 targets: to learn the difference of flat land, slope and top of the hill Cab Franc at @coulydutheil_vin & discover how the success of @cremantdeloire was born @maisonackerman almost 200 years ago (1831)

@uniquetravel.fi Loire tour Day2 in @vinsdevouvray_officiel and @aoctouraine.

Discoveries expected today @instantbredif and @plou_et_fils and delicious lunch @gueuleton by @discoveries_pasimw

@uniquetravel.fi day1 at Loire included a visit to @cavesmonmousseau caves, tasting of 4 wines and delicious garden lunch @le_clos_damboise .

🍾Chenins aged for at least 3x the minimum required period, the 2022 Justin Marceau Brut & 2020 Cuvée Orfèvre Extra Brut delivered vibrant fruit & an irresistible burst of energy. A sparkling demonstration of Chenin Blanc’s potential for world-class bubbles, especially with a little help from Chardonnay.

The Cab. Franc-based Cuvée Ciselée Rosé Brut lived up to its name: razor-sharp precision, with every delicious detail beautifully chiselled. To finish, the 2025 Touraine Chenonceaux Sauvignon swept the tasters off their feet with its exuberant intensity & sheer vitality.

Lunch on the terrace of the aristocratic Le Clos d’Amboise brought its own flavour fireworks: bell pepper panna cotta, crayfish tartare, duck breast with chanterelles & plum tartlet with verbena & fromage blanc ice cream. And the tasty wines:

Damien Moyer Edmond 2024, @vinsdemontlouis -sur-Loire: 100% organic & orgastic Chenin from the Clos des Rocheroux estate, fermented and 5 months lees aged in used barrels😋.

@domainedelapresle Le Préau Pinot Noir 2019, Oisly, Loire: from a 1885 established family estate, producing gorgeous Burgundy style Pinot with black olives & cherry fruit😍.

Quite the afternoon for the taste buds.
