Sometimes I can’t believe we put in an offer without ever seeing the place. Only crazy people do that!

But when you know… you know.

Once we were under contract, we flew up for the inspection on Valentine’s Day weekend. Palmer was buried in snow, with more on the way, and completely socked in. So much so that we had no idea it was surrounded by mountains.

When we moved up in March, it felt like a reveal. Mountains in every direction. I kept gasping and pointing, saying, “Look, Ben! There’s more over there!” We were home.

Sometimes the boldest moves carry the greatest rewards.

I’m really glad we took the risk.

I wrote about Dad’s Alaskan journey in our newsletter this week. He’ll be the first to tell you it was never his dream to live in the North. But we do crazy things for our kids. 🙃

And I’m sure grateful he agreed because the best part of this homestead is having all of us together.

Maybe one of these days he’ll fall in love with this place like I have… but I won’t hold my breath. 🤣

I still stand by it! I couldn’t live in a city again. Too many cars, too many people. Though I do love a museum and a walkable coffee shop… so I love a quick visit. But coming back home is the best feeling ever. 🌲✨

It’s all about perspective, and in winter, sometimes you need a lot of perspective to get you through the hard days.

So I thought we’d start a Winter Wednesday appreciation series, sharing what we’re grateful for each Wednesday through the long winter. Alaska has a way of never letting go.

It’s not always easy. In fact, most of the time it’s hard. But I just can’t seem to give it up. Every time I leave, it pulls me back in.

Good thing we plan to stay awhile!

We said goodbye to Sam and Moose on Monday night. They’re off on another great adventure down the west coast. (Not gonna lie, we’re jealous.)

But we’re so grateful for the two weeks they spent with us and the help Sam gave Dad on the power shed and various other projects.
