These bristles are amazing and I honestly never reach for anything else anymore.

They hold the perfect amount of paint and glide like a dream. And yes, they clean up back to white with each cleaning.

You can get them individually or in great sets on your local home improvement store and on Amazon too!

Tell me which one you are most curious about and I’ll give you my tips on how I get the best results with that brush !!

Comment “Supplies” for my favorites and Save these details for use later 👇

I am sharing the secret to a flawless paint finish and you DONT need a paint sprayer to achieve it !

Here is how I get a smooth as glass finish on cabinets and furniture with just a brush and roller.

⭐️Here are the tried and true steps I use::

A. Pre-Sand your piece with sequentially higher grit sandpaper (80-120-220-340)
⭐️a smooth surface is your best friend

B. Wipe it clean with denatured alcohol prior to painting & EVERY TIME after you sand anything
⭐️a clean surface is your best friend

C. Prime with a shellac based primer. My favorite is BIN. In fact, it’s the only one I EVER buy.
(And yes, I buy it with my own hard earned cash. This is not a sales pitch 🤨)

⭐️ AND have your paint store tint the primer to match your paint color. It won’t be an exact color match, but it will be a perfect base and keep your intended color true. (The tint instructions are printed right on the can !)
⭐️Apply in a thin coat, let it dry and then sand & wipe with denatured alcohol prior to painting the next coat of paint.
 ⭐️BIN’s is your best friend

D. Use a self leveling furniture or cabinet paint. (Not a latex wall paint) Latex is for walls—Not for furniture and definitely NOT for any wood surface. My favorite is a waterborne alkyd paint. It delivers the desired flow and leveling characteristics of oil-based paint, with the added benefit of an easy soap and water cleanup
⭐️Alkyd or Enamel paint is your best friend

E. Use a new paintbrush for the paint coats. You are investing hours into the project. It’s worth the $7 for a clean, smooth bristle brush.
⭐️Brand new brushes are your best friend

F. Sand and clean with denatured alcohol between the Alkyd coat. I usually apply 2 coats 🧥.

OTHER ESSENTIALS:

Paint at the right temp. If it’s too hot - your paint will dry before it levels. If it’s too cold, it’s too thick to level and it takes more time to cure before you sand.

Here’s a look at the main stuff I used for this project. It’s not a complete list, but it should give you a good idea of what went into my first built-in.

I worked on this part-time over about 10 weeks, fitting it in during evenings and weekends around my full-time job.

DIY projects are my happy place, letting me add cool and functional things to my home without spending a ton. I’ve learned everything by diving in and figuring it out as I go. Tips for TIPPING ⬇️

1. Use self leveling paint
2. Use a new brush
3. Never paint from the can. I like a deep, narrow tray.
4. Don’t let paint sit in the tray too long, it will dry out
5. Don’t put to much paint on your brush at once, it will pool on your surface
6. Tap a bit of your paint off of your brush before you start your first stroke
7. Brush in ONLY ONE DIRECTION, not back and forth
8. Don’t mash your brush down
9. Slightly overlap your brush stokes and keep the edges wet
10. Once you start a section, finish it.

And don’t “go back” over it once you “tipped” it.
Have faith that the paint will self level.

Going back over paint that has started to set will CAUSE brush strokes. So just leave it alone.
*ask me how I know 🤦‍♀️
