LEG DAY JUST GOT AN UPGRADE 👀🔥

Three pieces of kit on the gym floor at Life Hub Bayside that you don’t see every day.

Swipe to see them in action.

Pendulum Squat - safer full-range quad strength 🦵
➕ Reduces lower-back loading compared to barbell squats
➕ Keeps constant tension through the quads
➕ Lets you train heavy with more confidence

Unilateral Leg Press - single-leg control and knee stability ⚖️
➕ Helps correct left-to-right strength imbalances
➕ Improves control around the knee joint
➕ Builds hip stability that carries over to running and sport

Standing Calf Raise - ankle strength and force transfer for running and jumping 🏃
➕ Improves ankle stability under load
➕ Reduces stress through the lower leg during running
➕ Increases power transfer for sprinting and jumping

We’re currently in our soft open until Saturday 30 May.
Right now it’s invite-only. Members have access to a private invite link, if you know someone inside - ask them for the link to come in. 👀 by @disfunctional_serge

If the weight goes up and the standards go down, are you really getting stronger?
Cluster sets.

Instead of one continuous set that slowly breakss down, cluster sets split the work into small bursts (mini-sets) with very short rests in between.

Those short rests partially reset your nervous system, grip, and breathing. This lets you keep force output high, bar speed sharp, and positions strong, even at heavier loads.

What this looks like:

Final set at 80-90% of your 3RM performed as 3 + 2 + 2, with short rest between each mini-set.

Normally, that load might give you 4-5 clean reps. Using a cluster, you can hit 7 high-quality reps instead. This gives you another way to progressively overload without turning the set into a grind.

Lift clean. Lift heavy. Trust the process. 💪 by @disfunctional_serge

Jefferson curls build a strong, resilient spine - when done right.

Here’s a quick 101 to get familiar.
We’ll be introducing Jefferson curls in Lower Body Lift Club, Week 3 of our Preparation Phase.

We often train stiffness and control through the spine. This allows us to also train flexion and extension to build real-world robustness.

This is about controlled spinal movement and building resilience, not chasing weight.

We start light, earn the range, and move with intent. Your spine already moves every day - we’re just teaching it to do so safely and with control.

Please leave the ego at the door and trust the process 🙏 by @disfunctional_serge

What an incredible journey for @markmcgahan1
It was an absolute pleasure racing along side you mate.
Thank you @bethmattingley and @rachwhitelaw for absolutely sending it with us 💨

What was once a bit of banter in our session, you made it a reality with the insane amount of work you put in inside and outside the gym.
Only just starting to run “jog-ish” this year and then pulling a calf on top of that and not being able to run for quite sometime, you still pushed through and made it happen.
You should be so proud mate.
Until our next one 🔥🔥 LFG by @disfunctional_serge

Hyrox goals
Sub 1:07 ✔️
Have fun ✔️

I never thought I would be racing 9 months post knee reco, started running 5 months ago with 50m at a time and hyrox seemed impossible at that point, yet here we are with a 4.5 min PB. Movement is a privilege 🙏

Grateful for you @disfunctional_serge by @disfunctional_serge

Hyrox prep has a way of humbling you.

It’s easy to think you’re not doing enough…
until you realise you’re actually doing way too much.

Chasing leanness, piling on extra sessions, running more, lifting harder - it might look the part, but performance and recovery will always tell the truth.

Aesthetics doesn’t mean performance.
More work doesn’t mean better results.
And extremes always come with a cost.

These lessons matter - especially if you’re prepping for HYROX or any demanding event.
Build gradually. Fuel properly. Respect recovery.

At the end of the day:
Consistency beats chaos. Always.
