Cabaret.

Nascido em 1966 como um projeto anti-fascista.
Inspirado em "Adeus a Berlim," de Christopher Isherwood, 1939.
Ainda relevante.

dear diary,
I don't even know how to begin this. I feel like that is a thing I say a lot - a lot -, and sometimes it's just a cheesy way to put down my burning feelings, but this time... wow. Shortly: Hamilton changed my life 8 years ago (but you know that part), and I finally got to see it live. Front row. That's it. Wow. Shit. Beginning to explain what this means to me feels impossible because it involves years of screaming lyrics, wearing half-ups half downs, warrior cats (yes, you read that right), learning the piano (and even teaching philip's part to my baby sister), studying and reading letters/ books about these people extensively (worrying), and the blooming of an undying, evergreen love for theatre.

Hamilton moved me from the first song I heard. I don't know what it is about it. I mean, I always say that it's a musical that really takes you in and brings you on a 50-year journey, but (especially after seeing it live), I kind of wonder if there is a little bit of magic sprinkled on it. I mean, i'm joking, of course (questionable statement about to be contradicted), but I think some things are just... made in such a way that it reaches even the most unlikely viewer. I think the message here is that theatre really is so powerful, so utterly transformative - I mean, god, anyone who knows me for at least two of the past eight years knows that Elizabeth Schuyler shaped me. Inspired me, I'd say, in a very funny way, to aspire to be who I am today. I think theatre reaches into our hearts and forces us to see, feel, touch our emotions and understand who we want to be, where we stand, what we want to reach, the impact we want to leave. It makes us go beyond our bodies and into something bigger. At least for me, it does so.

Theatre connects me with something greater: with my presence. With my love. With my higher state of mind. I am so grateful for theatre, for life and, of course, for Hamilton.

All along there was some invisible string...
wait, wrong song.

I don't think i'm ever beating the elizabeth schuyler hamilton allegations and i'm totally okay with that - it's her birthday, by the way! ๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅฐ

(I stopped to read over my letter; it is a motley mixture of fond extravagance and sprightly dullness; the truth is I am too much in love to be either reasonable or witty; I feel in the extreme; and when I attempt to speak of my feelings I rave. I have remarked to you before that real tenderness has always a tincture of sadness, and when I affect the lively my melting heart rebels. It is separated from you and it cannot be cheerful. When it has rested itself in your bosom in tears of joy, it will assume a livelier call and laugh without affectation. What is it in my letters that pleases you so much? Love is a sort of insanity and every thing I write savors strongly of it; that you return it is the best proof of your madness also.

I tell you, my Betsey, you are negligent; you do not write me often enough. Take more care of my happiness, for there is nothing your Hamilton would not do to promote yours.) by @diskcarol

idk about you but I kinda feel like i'm supposed to choose a suitor to wear the crown (I said I would choose as soon as I weave this shroud)

(but, shh, they don't know that every night I unthread all the work i've done, cause i'd rather lie than allow them to think they've won)

"They say times are hard for dreamers,
and, who knows? Maybe they are,
people seem stuck or lost at sea..."

I vividly remember listening to this song as I walked through the cold sunlight and greens of my neighborhood five years ago. The pandemic had barely started, things were changing, I was a young teenager with dreams and an unshakeable trust in something I couldn't quite name or justify. I assume I should have felt like there was nothing to be done - that this exile from the world meant a demanded compliance with stagnancy, that being locked away at such a pivotal age was nothing but frustrating. Yet I walked and heard these lyrics in my eardrums and I felt my body aching, radiating a light I had just recently found in my chest as I first braved and explored my insides.

I believe this "forced solitude" at the time made me realize that I was, in fact, anything but alone. As I felt the sunlight paint my skin, and the birds sing to me, and the people who played instruments around our buildings to brighten our quiet days, I realized that the world I had been dreaming of was the same one I saw when I looked out my window. That it wasn't some distant, far-far-away fantasy, but ever-present and in reach, exactly as it is and will be. That there was beauty far beyond our eyes in human connection, that the soul speaks, sings, and whispers, when you simply allow yourself to listen.

As I speak of art, as I speak of journeys and friendships, as I speak of fun, of learning, of loving and crying, I cannot help but speak of the wind in my hair that guides me, of the tunes my heart sings, of the song of life and light and love the world and the universe echos. Of stepping, regardless of whether you're able to see the outline of the steps underneath your feet. Of knowing, of trusting. Of being, of tripping and laughing at your near-fall. All of us.

Thank you, AMDA, for being one of many proofs I have.
To my people, blood and chosen family, near or far.
To the universe, to the soul, to the arts, to the heart.
From me.
With love, always.
