POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Favourite albums of 2024, in no particular order. Really hoping to get back to posting content on this account. This year saw us move house and I’ve finally got a dedicated space for my vinyl and equipment, but maybe more to come on that later in 2025!

The traditional ten albums which made the last year that bit more enjoyable - my 10 favourite albums of 2023. It felt like a pretty stacked year for music, but life being what it is, I feel like there’s a ton of stuff I haven’t had the chance to check out or connect with yet, so definitely keen to hear everyone else’s favourites!

The traditional top records of the year for 2022.

It's been a crazy busy year, both in terms of family and work life, so I feel like I haven't had much time to invest in listening - I'd love to hear any further album recommendations!

Wishing all my friends a happy and healthy 2023. ❤️ by @disquietdust

10 records that made 2021 a little more palatable.

Admittedly, I've had a lot less time to listen to music, so I've undoubtedly missed out on a few. Really interested in hearing everyone elses' favourites and any other recommendations!

Wishing everyone a happy 2022. Stay positive! (aside from Covid)

Origami Angel - “Gami Gang” (2021) - 2xLP (black/white and green/orange splits) on Counter Intuitive records. Fun, energetic poppy emo-fuelled math rock anthems!

Manchester Orchestra - “The Million Masks of God” (2021) pressed on pink & white coloured vinyl on Loma Vista Recordings. Sounding better and better with every spin (third listen in progress). Really hoping I can catch these guys on tour soon. 🤞

Tonight’s vibe: The Hold Steady - “Heaven is Whenever”, 10 year anniversary pressing on Vagrant Records. File these guys under bands it took me way too long to properly appreciate for how fantastic their records are.

Sufjan Stevens - "Silver & Gold" 5LP black vinyl pressing on Asthmatic Kitty records, 2012. "Silver & Gold" comprises the second five volumes of Sufjan's Christmas songs, following on from "Songs For Christmas" (see yesterday's post) and is easily the most extensive and bonkers vinyl boxset I own. As well as the 5 LPs, the set contains a number of Christmas sticker sheets, temporary tattoos, a rather complex paper ornament to construct (I haven't tried), a 40 page songbook, a Christmas colouring book and an extensive liner notes booklet with some pretty crazy photography. Just like "Songs For Christmas", as well as many different renditions of traditional Christmas classics, this set contains some original gems. "Christmas in the Room" is (in my opinion) one of the greatest Christmas songs ever written, stripping away the cosmetic and superficial qualities of Christmas, portraying two people celebrating Christmas simply by being together and enjoying each other's company and love. "Christmas Unicorn" has also become one of my favourite Christmas "anthems", which irresistibly segues into a joyous outburst of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" in the latter half. Other highlights include "Barcarola", "The Midnight Clear" and the hauntingly beautiful "Justice Delivers Its Death". The "Silver & Gold" boxset, and indeed the full Sufjan Christmas catalogue, are a Christmas essential.

Sufjan Stevens - “Songs for Christmas (Volumes I-V)” 5LP pressing on Asthmatic Kitty Records, 2018 (Originally released in 2006). Sufjan has recorded and released over 100 Christmas tracks at this point, and this boxset houses the first 5 of 10 volumes. There are some absolute gems in this set, including “Sister Winter”, “Star of Wonder”, “That Was The Worst Christmas Ever”, and a beautiful seasonal rendition of “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”, amongst others. I was so happy when this finally got a vinyl release a couple of years ago. Sits nicely alongside the latter 5 volumes in Silver & Gold (more on that later!). Merry Sufmas!

Vince Guaraldi Trio - “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, 2012 pressing (originally from 1988) pressed on transparent green vinyl. The Charlie Brown Christmas special isn’t a regular staple of Christmas in the U.K. in the way that is in the U.S., but when I first checked out this soundtrack a few years back, I instantly fell in love with “O Tannenbaum” in particular (a pretty perfect jazz rendition of “Oh Christmas Tree”) and, of course, “Christmas Time is Here”. It may not have featured in my childhood Christmases growing up, but it’s definitely become a traditional annual listen and watch for my Christmases from here on in!

Bright Eyes - “A Christmas Album”, 2013 pressing on white vinyl, Saddle Creek. Originally recorded in 2002, this collection of dark, emotive renditions of traditional Christmas classics is another annual favourite of mine. Highlights include the slow, atmospheric and wintery “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, as well as the slightly corny yet nostalgic reading of “The Night Before Christmas”, narrated over a moving piano instrumental. This might not spread Christmas cheer for many, but it captures the heartfelt sentimentality of the season beautifully.
