FRIEND OF THE FIRE ANNOUNCEMENT: DAMIEN BROCKWAY

We crossed paths with Damien Brockway years ago, when he had a big dream and we had the chance to play a small part in helping him realize it. Since then, his growth- and the well deserved recognition that followed has been an inspiration to us and many others.

Damien’s Journey began around family barbecues and grew into a career spent honing his craft over wood grills, rotisseries, fire cages, wood ovens, direct-heat cookers and offset smokers. Today, he is the chef and owner behind Distant Relatives, where he brings the flavors, traditions, and stories of the African American diaspora to Central Texas barbecue. Distant Relatives has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a spot on Texas Monthly’s Top 50 BBQ list, while Damien has twice been named a James Bear Awards semifinalist for Best Chef: Texas.

We’re proud to call him a Friend of the Fire.
