Buying my way to heaven, one piece of merch and one core memory at a time! Experiencing @pig_band_official live was a religious awakening, and @raymondwatts, @ssddave, @mjcarrasquillo, and @djmykillplague were on fucking fire! ❤️‍🔥

Having the opportunity to sit down with Ray—the man, the myth, the legend, industrial royalty, sonic alchemist, and creative genius who pioneered the alternative scene I wish I was born early enough to experience in the ‘80s and ‘90s—at the VIP meet and greet before the show was a bucket-list dream come true!

I’ll admit I was a starstruck, anxious wreck standing there, riding a massive wave of emotions, giddy with anticipation at the thought of meeting one of my favorite frontmen of all time. But I felt so comfortable the second he walked over to me, shook my hand, wrapped his other arm around my shoulder and back, and guided me to the table.

We talked about my plans to move to Chicago, bonding over proper old-school industrial music history when I mentioned PIG opening for Nine Inch Nails on the European leg of the Self Destruct Tour in ‘94, as well as my love for Coil and his other project, Zos Kia.

One of my favorite highlights was giving him the handmade custom jewelry for his belated 65th birthday gift. He was so appreciative of the presentation and paid attention to the details, and watching his face light up as he unwrapped the layers was pure magic! 🖤

The world can be a chaotically complex place, and I’ve had my fair share of feeling lost trying to navigate my own mental health struggles, especially over the past five years or so thanks to early twenties angst and confusion about my identity and where I belong. Ray’s music has guided me through some of my darkest, most difficult times, so having the privilege to hug him in a sweaty embrace (courtesy of the Texas heat—it’s September for fuck’s sake, so why is it still this hot?), look him in the eyes, and sincerely thank him for his art was a moment I’ll forever cherish.

Ray, thank you so much for your debauchery, sensuality, humor, charisma, eloquence, empathy, catharsis, and legendary legacy from Wax Trax! Records to KMFDM and beyond—for your time, passion, creative w taken in AM/FM Dallas by @distortedheartbeat
