WHAT’S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU’VE ever done? I’ll give you a second to think. Ok, that’s pretty crazy, but not as crazy as running for governor so you can sit down because I win and you lose. Speaking of losing, I’m a loser! I lost my race, but won in so many other ways. Like…I won the hearts of millions of Tennesseans (if you round up from 12,456). And I won a straw poll that my friend ran at a party where no one knew what was going on. And I definitely won the East-Nashville-Musicians-Who-Already-Knew-Me bloc. I think. Let’s say yes.
I JUST DID THE MATH and it was exactly 500 days between when I announced my run until the primary. For 500 days, in the back of my head, no matter where I was, no matter how good the Wings were, no matter what state or country I was in, “I’m an actual gubernatorial candidate for Tennessee, and no one here knows that” played on repeat. Except for when I was around people who did know, then just the first part. Literally. A never-ending loop, sometimes at the forefront of the back of my mind, so like right about to be in the middle of my mind, and sometimes way in the back, like where you want to be standing at a local East Nashville show, but always there, looping, for 500 days.
WELL, LOOP NO MORE. I am a civilian once again, a pathetic loser plebe like all of you. So on the first day back, I got Wings and a martini, at a bar that welcomes dogs cause Zeb needed to come.
ML ROSE HAS AT LAST COUNT A BILLION locations, and I had never been to the Sylvan Park one but it was perfectly vacant on a Friday afternoon. Went for 12 extra crispy tossed in the hot buffalo. Gin martini (I know that’s redundant but you gotta be sure these days). To my surprise, the Wings are great. Crispy, well-sauced, deep flavor. Not that hot but enough of a savory tang that who cares. Also the bleu cheese was delicious, and unlike most places, they provided enough for all 12. Asking for more makes me feel fat. The martini was served in a rocks glass with no olives but whatever.
NO BETTER WAY to Wing myself back into this next chapter than Wings. So, let the doctor-disapproved reckless consumption of Wings re-commence!
