Today at @newyorkcomiccon I gave myself over to absolute pleasure by moderating the @rockyhorrorbway panel. Cast members @jakeshears @anania00 @jiminmmoon were so funny and thoughtful with their answers about their characters and what Rocky Horror means to them, and Andrew Moerdyk from @designbydots shared his inspirations for the set. Rocky Horror has been so formative in my life. I love that 40+ years after I first saw it, it’s still giving me life. taken in Comic Con New York - Javits Center by @divaraven

Fellow irregular Frankie fans: If you’re attending @newyorkcomiccon this Friday, come see me moderate the @rockyhorrorbway panel! I am shivering with anticipation to chat with these incredible artists who make the current production of this iconic show such an out-of-this-world experience. Rocky Horror is more than a rite of passage. It’s been a formative experience for generations of folks growing into their authentic selves. I can’t wait to hear all of their Rocky tales! taken in New York Comic Con by @divaraven

Happy Hat Day! 🎩 It’s October and after a summer slumber, we are back — and so is fall theater season. Buckle up, we have some stories for you. Yes, YOU. Actors, producers, writers, directors, publicists, stage managers, box office saints, dramaturgs, audience members, and more.

@teemantim hit the phones to talk to @lynnnottage, Oskar Eustis, @stevepasquale, @laurazlatos, @djgiles47, @heidischreck, @annewashburn and many more about the role of political theater today.

What is the power of art and what is the power of storytelling?

The great @divaraven chronicles a bygone era of the East Village aughts and talks to @joeyariasnyc and @basiltwist3 about putting on their “couture gown of a show” again.

And they’re not! @ariaswithatwistnyc was just extended to December.

@emmarosawent and @obarresi55 have spent 10+ years working on 40 projects, including lots and lots of Shakespeare. They dive into their creative inspirations and bucket lists.

🐻❤️

@ethanevakaras goes into the mind of dramaturg @sarahlunnie, who worked on not one, two, three, but FOUR plays this and next season by @ryanjhaddad @eliyasmith @a_modern_classic @themadonesarchive.

Don’t miss the miracle.

Lots to read and even more to see. Btw we have exclusive Hat hats avail for close readers. Get in our DMs to get one. 🎩 by @divaraven

While I’ve interviewed @joeyariasnyc and @basiltwist3 before, this is the first time I’ve talked to them together. What an absolute thrill it was to chat with these brilliant, singular artists about bringing back their signature spectacle Arias with a Twist 18 years after its stunning debut. My first piece for @readthehat is equal parts interview and essay as I explore time’s impact on this show, the East Village and all of us. I had such a blast interviewing the insanely talented @mattisunwell, who does incredible punk covers of Broadway show tunes. As a musical theater-loving Goth, I feel like I’ve been waiting for his Broadway Does Punk project my entire life! In my piece, I link to a lot of his covers as well as his college musical theater showcase (he does a kick-ass rendition of “The Old Red Hills of Home” from Parade!). What makes Matt special is he could go and be a legit Broadway performer, or he could be an emo icon (his band, @unwellband, is awesome). But right now he’s choosing to combine his two passions. Can’t wait to see Broadway Does Punk live onstage next weekend at @abronsartscenter! Link in my linktr.ee. by @divaraven

I just published my favorite biannual article: a preview of all the new musicals opening beyond Broadway this fall. It’s no secret that last season was a disappointment for musical lovers on Broadway. This season doesn’t look much better—only three new musicals are opening on the Main Stem this fall, and one is a jukebox (more or less). But beyond Broadway, 20 new tuners are playing! I'm particular excited about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which comes to the @publictheaterny after earning raves in London; an adaptation of the novel Imitation of Life with songs by John Legend and a book by Lynn Nottage at @theshedny; @conversationmusical, a new musical cowritten and costarring @joshuahenryofficial and @memoirsmusical, one of the last projects from @theduncansheik, who just passed away. My latest review for @timeoutnewyork, Marin Ireland’s shattering @preexistingconditionplay starring a quietly harrowing @lupitanyongo as a woman navigating the messy aftermath of domestic violence. This is my second time seeing the play and it had me interrogating my preconceived notions about who abusers and victims are—if you think it could never happen to you, see this show. It’s running until early January with a diverse slate of stars scheduled to inhabit the leading role. Review link in my Linkt.ree. taken in Greenwich House Theater by @divaraven

If you’re in NYC this Labor Day weekend, try to snag free tickets to Public Record at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Presented by @publictheaterny, it’s a live 12-track album performed onstage in real time by 100 NYC residents that captures the spirit of our city in this moment. Over the past 13 months, these folks have worked with multidisciplinary artists to devise this piece, which will include their real stories. I was so thrilled to interview some of the amazing people behind this singular performance for @timeoutnewyork. And yes, I tell you how to get free tix! Link in my Linktr.ee. by @divaraven

My Broadway fall preview has dropped!! There are 15 new productions opening before the end of the year, and while I am sad so few are musicals (only four!!), I am excited about a lot of what’s coming. There’s a queering of The Fantasticks from @2stnyc, Much Ado with Loki and Agent Carter (Marvel fans get it!), Broadway transfers of acclaimed plays Here There Are Blueberries from @tectonictheaterproject and Downstate, @officialjld in her Broadway debut, a revival of Awake and Sing! at @mtc_nyc and a bio-musical about @dollyparton. I went in a skeptic, but left @paranormalbroadway a convert. @marlena.artist and I had a blast screaming our heads off. A great example of the magic live theater can conjure. Link to my @timeoutnewyork review in my bio. taken in August Wilson Theatre by @divaraven

Never got a chance to post these sweet pics from our trip to the @museumoficecream, which was @tdfnyc’s summer outing. Admittedly it’s more of a play space than a museum. But my young-at-heart offspring had a blast! by @divaraven
