The Art of the Party
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Mothafunk isn’t confined by genres— a banger is a banger, whether it’s a deep-dig from the crate, or a fresh Soundcloud find. A Chicago-born, Naarm-based DJ, event producer, and journalist with a decade in the game, Crissy Collins (aka Mothafunk) is on a mission to play good music and continue Chicago’s ethos of treating the dancefloor as a sacred space. She sees it as a place of ritual, connection, and intention.

A true music industry polymath, Mothafunk is regular host on Triple R radio and curator of Dirty Disco parties. Not to forget her works as a journalist, with bylines in MixMag AU/NZ and Vice Australia, alongside hosting panels and artists talks.

Mothafunk has warmed up stages for heavyweights like Chris Stussy, Ezra Collective, Detroit In Effect, and Seun Kuti, and shared decks with DJ Sluggo, Marcellus Pittman, DJ Manny, and K. Alexi, to name a few. She has constantly delivered standout performances at festivals including Meredith, Strawberry Fields, When Pigs Fly, and work. Whatever the function, Mothafunk has the repertoire to soundtrack it.

On October 31st for Halloween rave REQUIEM FOR A DISCO, Mothafunk is set to raise spirits and syncopate souls with a 2hr masterclass in sonic fluidity. Expect a dynamic musical journey woven with rare grooves, global club heat, and hidden classics. May the the Funktion-Ones rest in beats.

Pixleton is the quintessential underground icon. An entire generation of Naarm’s OG doofers and ravers have shaken what their momma gave them with Pixleton on the ones and twos.

A classically trained cellist with a background in the punk-tech sound system culture of the 1990s, Pixleton has made a lasting impact on the local rave scene, co-founding seminal club night Flirt and holding residencies at Revolver’s legendary Saturday morning sessions, Teriyaki Anarki Saki, Virus, and Sunny, to name a few.

Her current residencies include Electrique, Dive Bar Disco, and Adore, and she has recently rocked the dfloor at Psychedelic Bush Disco, Loose Rave Unit, Section 8, and Howler.

This Halloween at REQUIEM FOR A DISCO, Pixleton is set to slay My Aeon’s downstairs floor. Expect phat phonky techno and house rhythms, squelching acid salvation, pious peak-time pressure, and to carpe tf out of the diem.

Ranjit Nijjer bought his first turntable in 2003, started DJing professionally in 2004, and has remained a devotee of techno and electronic music ever since. He is a regular guest at clubs, events and festivals across Naarm and beyond, including Rainbow Spirit Festival, Warehouse 3000, Club Other and Dive Bar Disco.

In his own words, Ranjit’s modus operandi is to “present good music in the best possible way. So if that means playing a track by itself for 6 minutes, or that playing three tracks at once in a particular configuration will yield the best result for the audience, then that’s what I’ll do.” This approach has seen him develop his own sound by drawing from different influences and exploring techniques such as using a four-channel digital setup to combine loops, effects, field recordings, samples and complete pieces of music.

Ranjit’s contribution to the scene extends beyond DJing and includes co-founding Technoir, which has been running for over 20 years and stands as one of Melbourne’s longest-running underground techno nights. Since 2020, Ranjit has also built a solid body of work as a producer, with seven EPs on Australian label Machine, releases on Further Sessions and Denude, and the full-length album Echoes In Time on Diffuse Reality. Ranjit continues to shape his connection to techno through hosting Technoir’s fortnightly show on Area3000 Radio, where he shares records, artists and ideas with the wider community.

This Halloween at REQUIEM FOR A DISCO, Ranjit joins forces with friend and fellow Technoir resident Slieker to beckon dancers through the darkness and towards the light. Building on their decades of musical exploration and technical mastery, this pair extraordinaire invites communion with deep rhythms, stripped-back funk and driving techno. Salvation can be found upstairs between the Funktion-Ones at My Aeon.

RAVE IN PEACE.

A flying disc maverick, vinyl raconteur and dancefloor liberator, Slieker approaches DJing as more than simply playing records. His sets are about creating continuous, conductive energy between music and dancers, with blended vinyl cuts interweaving across an extended musical horizon. As he puts it, “the shockwaves of disco are what today’s DJs are surfing” — and this pursuit of connection and momentum drives his work to this day.

Since his first appearances with Every Picture Tells a Story in 1994, Slieker has held residencies with Machine (16 years and still counting), Technoir (17 years and also still current), and Teriyaki Anarki Saki (8 years). He has also appeared at a litany of club nights and events, including Centriphugal, Revolver, Warehouse 3000 and Hardware, and played regularly at festivals including Rainbow Serpent, Earthcore, Burning Seed, Esoteric, Meredith and many more.

On Oct 31st at Requiem for a Disco, Slieker goes b2b with fellow Technoir resident Ranjit Nijjer at My Aeon’s notorious upper level dfloor to give the Funktion-Ones an unholy reckoning that will leave the angels weeping.

Ranjit Nijjer has been part of Melbourne/Naarm’s underground techno landscape for more than two decades as a DJ, producer, promoter and founder of Technoir.

Through Technoir, Ranjit has helped build one of the city’s longest-running techno spaces: a home for local artists, visiting guests and committed dancers, held together by sound, community and a genuine love of the music. That same spirit now continues through Technoir’s fortnightly show on Area3000 Radio, hosted by Ranjit, where he shares the records, artists and ideas that continue to shape his connection to techno.

Since 2020, Ranjit has also built a solid body of work as a producer, with seven EPs on Australian label Machine, releases on Further Sessions and Denude, and the full-length album Echoes In Time on Diffuse Reality. While some of his earlier productions leaned into deeper and more atmospheric territory, his sound has broadened over time across hypnotic, driving and club-focused techno, while still carrying a strong sense of mood, movement and detail.

On Aug 1st, Ranjit opens Le Deep Powder dancefloor for Le Chalet Discothèque. Expect a patiently crafted set layered with hypnotic and ethereal textures, built bar by bar on a bedrock of driving techno and stripped-back funk.

Tom Roberts is a Melbourne-based DJ known for a bass-heavy, groove-driven sound that moves effortlessly through tech house, indie dance and bush techno. No matter the style, his sets are built to lock in the crowd with chunky rhythms, rolling low end and driving energy.

Having played at some of Melbourne’s iconic venues including Revolver, Circus, Killing Time and My Aeon, Tom has become a familiar face behind the decks.

Tom is also part of The Sound Project, curating events and helping bring parties to venues and unique spaces across Melbourne.

On Aug 1st at Le Chalet Discothèque, Tom Roberts stokes the fires and steams up the windows of the Salon du Chalet downstairs dfloor. Expect high-altitude après-ski energy and post-piste peak-time grooves par excellence.
