KISS Sidewinder MOD1 ✅
What an incredible week training with Dahab’s finest @omar_derbalaa .
A tough week for dive egos, but the most educational and transformative course I’ve taken in years. While I am still a baby CCR diver, I feel confident taking this magic machine back home to California waters. I look forward to many, many more hours of silent diving courtesy of @kissrebreathers . taken in Dahab - Lighthouse by @divenorcal

Just wrapped up Day 3 of the @kissrebreathers Sidewinder MOD 1 with @omar_derbalaa . At just shy of 5 hours on the unit and many more of theory, it’s still kicking my ass, but I’m starting to wrap my head around it. You hear it time and time again, but after years of diving and teaching open circuit, it’s so strange going back to square one, struggling to maintain buoyancy at 15 meters 🤦‍♂️. However with Omar’s guidance; razor sharp teaching style and outstanding knowledge of the unit, sidemount & CCR diving, I can feel myself getting closer to taming this amazing machine. CCR is simply magic, especially the Sidewinder.
I’m not sure what excites me more, the diving itself or the opportunities it presents. Either way, I am enjoying this WAY MORE than one reasonably should.

Early morning dive at North Monastery. A deep one today, bottoming out at about 50M (165ft). At this depth this site becomes a wall, plummeting down a steep canyon to final depth of about 1 mile! (5000ft+). Below 130 the walls are squirming with bristle stars, pouring out of every crack and crevice. Occasionally one can find a patch of snow-white metridium anemones, decorator crabs & rock fish.
If you listen to the videos, you can still hear Sea Lions barking at 160 ft! insane. They are super loud. Sometimes I feel their barks travel further than whale song…
Last but not least, pretty shocking but unsurprising to find single-use plastics wedged under boulders at 90ft. Needless to say it was removed, but thought I’d mention it in case you wondered what happens to your microwave meal when you’re done with it.
Great dive, never gets old. Nothing more to say.
Get out. Just go diving.
