POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Damn!

3 years since Megan Anna Neff and I started the Divergent Conversations Podcast

Although we are on a much needed break while the two of us both take care of ourselves through burnout and some intense projects, the podcast has meant more to me than every other project I've done.

Megan Anna and I have had some ups and downs as partners and friends and we've always repaired to ensure we can keep our friendship the priority and the podcast secondary.

We are hoping to release a new season in the fall, and we can't thank all of you enough for all of the support.

It is wild to me that something that started as a casual hobby became one of the most popular podcasts in the entire world

Make sure you check out our 135+ episodes and YouTube content, as well as our own personal substack accounts and other platforms

On this re-released episode of @divergentconversations podcast we are talking about Autistic burnout, ADHD, and where they intersect.

Depression and burnout can trick the mind into believing, “It’s always been this way. It always will be.” But that’s not true. Zooming out shows the pattern: low seasons come and go. They’re not permanent.

Sometimes the most helpful thing is to honor the slowdown and trust that another season will come.

The closer we get to burnout, the harder it is to slow down. But pausing to take a step back can soften the reactivity and help us move from intention instead of urgency.

On this re-released episode of @divergentconversations podcast we chat with Brittany Goff about OCD.

Asking “why” is a form of self-advocacy for many of us. Understanding “why” often helps **builds self-trust, reduces overwhelm, and keeps those obsessive stories from filling in the gaps. But many of us were taught early on that asking questions was “disruptive.” Over time, that shuts down a core part of how we make sense of the world.

Answering the why can be powerful.

On this re-released episode of @divergentconversations podcast we chat with Brittany Goff about OCD.

OCD isn’t random. It comes from somewhere.

ICBT (Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) looks at the story behind each obsession and the “why” behind it. Instead of calling these thoughts “intrusions,” ICBT sees them as inferences shaped by our history, experiences, and reasoning patterns.

For many, it can be a far more validating way to understand OCD. The mind isn’t malfunctioning, it’s trying to make sense of something.

On this re-released episode of @divergentconversations podcast we have Sheldon Gay (@sheldongayisbugn) as a guest to talk about giftedness.

There are a lot of similarities in discovery processes for Autistic people and Gifted people. For both, discovery can both bring a mix of clarity and overwhelm.

If you’ve ever dimmed your light to keep the room comfortable, you’re not alone. Being deeply perceptive is both a cape and a kryptonite (a great analogy that Sheldon came up with) — and many of us learn to hide it just to avoid the overwhelm.

On this re-released episode of @divergentconversations podcast we are talking about grief and wellness.

Sometimes the most nourishing choices don’t match our mood. Grief, dysregulation, or low affect can make connection feel impossible, and yet the right people make space for us to show up exactly as we are.

“Come as you are” relationships matter. They don’t rush to worry, fix, or smooth things over. They simply hold room for our full range of emotions.

On this re-released episode of @divergentconversations podcast we are talking about grief and wellness.

Self-care is a term we both cringe at, as so much of mainstream wellness bypasses the harder emotions and calls it care.

Robust wellness asks something different of us - it’s communal, connected, and makes space for discomfort and pain.

For many neurodivergent people, this means reimagining self-care itself as something more radical, relational, and complex than the commercialized version we’re used to seeing.

On this re-released episode of @divergentconversations podcast we are talking about navigating rupture and repair along with authentic connection.

Shame can quietly pull us out of community. When we’re afraid of saying the wrong thing, we’re less likely to engage or contribute.

But accountability asks something different of us: the ability to apologize, repair, and learn from our mistakes.

This is essential in any growth arc, be it anti-racism, anti-ableism, or our own unlearning. Shame shuts us down; accountability brings us back into relationship.

On this re-released episode of @divergentconversations podcast we are talking about navigating rupture and repair along with authentic connection.

Repair after rupture is often where real closeness forms.

For us, a conversation that initially felt tense actually brought deeper connection because we named what was happening, shifted out of texting, and made space for the real story underneath the conflict.

Repair often involves pausing, communicating, and finding our way back to each other.
