This one surprised me the most.

I used to think having more clothes meant having more to wear.

In reality, it often meant more clutter, more decision fatigue, and more pieces that never left the hanger.

The wardrobes that worked best weren’t the biggest.

They were the ones filled with pieces that mixed and matched effortlessly.

My advice?

The next time you’re tempted to buy something new, challenge yourself to create three outfits from what’s already in your wardrobe.

You might discover you already own everything you need. 🤍

I think I used to underestimate my own wardrobe. Always looking for items to add instead of looking for ways to reinvent outfits.

Now I treat it a bit like an experiment.

Different shoes.
Different jacket.
Different bag.

Sometimes that’s all it takes to make an outfit feel exciting again instead of constantly looking for the next thing.

And I think getting dressed feels a lot more creative because of it. 🤍

I think I’m finally getting better at trusting my own taste. 🤎

Not because I suddenly became confident but because I’ve had more practice trying things,getting them wrong, trying again and figuring out what actually feels like me.

This entire outfit came from op shops. 🤎

Not a perfect vintage outfit or a carefully curated “thrifted aesthetic”. Just individual pieces I found, loved and brought home.

Some were obvious yeses and some needed a bit of imagination. I think that’s what I love about thrifting.

You’re not just shopping.You’re developing your eye. Figuring out what catches your attention,what you can make work and what actually feels like you.

The older I get,the less interested I am in making my wardrobe make sense.

I used to think personal style meant figuring out what kind of person I was and then dressing accordingly.

Now I think it’s much more fun than that.

Some days I’m drawn to something loud.
Some days I want jeans and a T shirt.
Sometimes I buy something completely ridiculous and somehow it becomes one of my favourite things.

Maybe that’s not inconsistency.Maybe that’s just being a person.

Your wardrobe doesn’t have to be a perfect representation of you.It gets to be a record of all the versions of you that you’ve enjoyed being🤎

I’ve been thinking about how much of fashion advice is really about making ourselves fit a particular silhouette.

More fitted.
More oversized.
More balanced.
More flattering.
More “proportionate”.

But sometimes I just want to put on an outfit because I like the way it looks.

Not because it creates the “right” shape.
Not because it follows some styling rule.
Not because it does anything for my body.

I like oversized clothes. I like fitted clothes. I like things that make absolutely no sense on paper but somehow feel completely right when I put them on.

And maybe that’s something we don’t talk about enough…You don’t have to dress for the shape you’re supposed to create. You can dress for the person you want to be.

How many things have we decided are “not us” before we’ve even really tried them?

I used to hear this all the time when I was styling women. Someone would tell me, “That’s not me,” and then try something on… only to look in the mirror and realise they actually loved it.

Sometimes it’s not that you don’t like something. You just haven’t figured out how to make it feel like you yet.

I think some of the best style discoveries happen somewhere between absolutely not and wait… I kind of love this 😆

So I would say to give yourself room to experiment. Your style doesn’t have to stay exactly where you left it ❤️

No idea who they are.

No idea why they have so many opinions.

But apparently they’re very concerned about whether my outfit is flattering,age appropriate,on trend and sufficiently coordinated 😆

I think it’s really hard to develop a sense of personal style when you’ve spent so much of your life being told what you’re supposed to wear.

The rules might change as we get older, but there always seem to be more of them.

And eventually,it can be difficult to work out which opinions are actually ours.

I think personal style is partly about unlearning some of that noise.

Trying things because you like them.Changing your mind. Wearing something unexpected.Figuring out what makes you feel like yourself, without needing anyone else to approve.

Maybe finding your style isn’t about discovering the perfect aesthetic.Maybe it’s about discovering what you like when nobody is telling you what you should like🤍

I love finding new clothes, but I don’t want pieces that only work one way.

I want to be able to wear them with the things I already own,create different outfits and keep reaching for them long after the excitement of something new wears off.

@leonard.st sent these pants and I’ve had so much fun styling them with a couple of their tops and some from my wardrobe.

And for me, that’s the sweet spot: fewer pieces,more ways to wear them 🤎
