‘a trip with friends’

A commissioned abstraction I made this summer for a family member! I was largely inspired by a trip I took in June this year to Glacier National Park 🏔️ this piece encapsulates the playful and adventurous parts of traveling with those who make you feel like a kid again, something I tend grasp for these days by @divinecreativeart

the light was hitting this wip beautifully. I love the way it heightens the differences in texture and vibrancy. Sometimes these small close ups are my favorite part, where you can see how layers of different processes affect the whole over time to make it complete by @divinecreativeart

‘When everything is quiet’

My last final of the semester was a challenge. I was set out to find a way to combine the ways I like to work (collage, painting, and drawing) with fabric materials. This piece shows a figure with collaged facial features and four profiles cascading from the back. I wanted to incorporate my love for text in artwork and quickly drew similarities from my past work as well. The features that make up the face are my own, my older sisters, and my mom, as a message on how we become like the people closest to us, yet we shape ourselves as individuals regardless of who or what has impacted us. “When everything is quiet who are you? What sets your heart on fire?” I overall enjoyed how this project and the course of Material Exploration went because it pushed me into something I’m not the most comfortable with. I would like to add more to this as well but i’m pleased with the direction it took despite not having any solid plan. 🪡 by @divinecreativeart

‘One in 8 Billion’ is my final zine for digital illustration. It ended up being a sort of introspective children’s book which I really enjoy. It was pretty cool being able to take my digital drawings and turn them into something actual physical, cutting, gluing, and binding the book may have been my favorite part lol 🌠 by @divinecreativeart

would it really be my last semester if I didn’t post my finals?
this is my last watercolor piece for water media. I did fight with this medium for a while but I like how this one turned out. It’s a representation of an introspective mind, putting four wondering figures within the “mind” of a fifth silhouetted figure 👤 18” x 24”

my previous assignment sort of served as an experimental prelude to this one. also boo got me making sure all the pencil marks were goneeeee by @divinecreativeart

‘CONSUME’ is a statement on the overindulgence of material items and media in our society. Measuring roughly 50” × 65”, this piece is definitely confrontational and conveys the brutal truth of the role we play as consumers.
excerpt from my final reflection on this piece:

“Constantly consuming creates a demand for overproduction and this creates a vicious cycle. Factories that create clothing, plastics, and other unbiodegradable materials send plumes of smoke into our air leaving cities in smog and toxic waste into our waterways. These products are often made from poor materials that don’t break down or can’t be recycled, littering our environment with toxic chemicals and debris that will take centuries to break down. Not only are these effects bad for the environment and for our health but they create a plethora of other issues through a domino effect. The root cause of overconsumption in our society is the engrained system of capitalism that is contributing to billion dollar companies selling useless products to its consumers.” by @divinecreativeart

‘Circles’ 24” x 36”

I feel like it’s easy for me to get stuck in these patterns where I just feel like a robot. It’s important to be aware of because it’s something that steals life from you, and I wanted to make a piece about it. Getting stuck in this loop of constantly working whether that’s my retail job, school, house work, or side hustles, it’s something that’s so physically and mentally draining and honestly I think just becoming aware that I was repeating these patterns helped me to pivot and not worry so much about “keeping up”. Anyway, if you’re still reading I’m pretty proud of this one, this is by far my most colorful painting and I really stepped out my comfort zone in terms of style and brushwork. As someone who is very meticulous I made myself throw my perfectionism out the window, to an extent and I was able to find more joy in the process. I think I still wanna add some changes ngllll tho by @divinecreativeart
