Stars have aligned today, because this post was scheduled without knowing today, 13th October, was International Day of Failure!

Everyone is doing life for the first time, and when we get it right, we all get it right the same way. So from what I see around me, it’s the places we go wrong at, that make our individual journeys unique.

Every time I think to myself, “I will always remember this failure in life, I have learnt everything I need to”, life challenges me with something new. In the last two years I have grown in leaps and bounds and they have easily cemented themselves as the most memorable years of my entire life. I hope to always cherish my learnings and keep the earlier version of myself in my heart. I wish to always remember the journey I’ve taken on in my becoming.

This comic is a summary of everything I’ve learned from my “failures” yet. There is a lot more I can write on the topic, but hopefully there will be more such carousals for that. I can’t wait to make more of these. Just working on this one zine/comic was so fun because I could bring out my writing and art in one go. These will be things I make for myself and not for the reception 💌

I have a tendency of wincing at my work once I have completed it. It happens with almost every project. But more so for the ones that I do for others. It’s just very hard for me to believe someone actually likes what I’m producing. I think a part of me doesn’t fully accept it. And that’s also the reason why I didn’t make this post when it had happened instead of now, nine months later.

I made my first wedding invite this year, and when we were nearing completion, and the couple started to show their approval, I was in a genuine flux of disbelief every time they complimented me. I just couldn’t believe they were actually okay with what I made. Even though I had spent hours, days trying to deliver my best, I just couldn’t believe that it was enough.

But this one is special because of multiple reasons:

1✨ It was the first time someone trusted me with their wedding invites after seeing my work, in one go.
2✨ While making this invite, we tried to include as many elements from both their lives as we could to make this the perfect blend of both their personalities and cultures. The guy is currently serving in the army. An environment, all three of us, the couple and me, were brought up in. This gave me a chance to picture their life together the way I had grown up seeing couples around me as a child, and bring in details that would mirror their future.

The couple took an evening to decide the song they would like in the background then unanimously came back choosing Yellow by Coldplay to wrap their invites in, the very next day. It was very sweet.

I shall be posting the rest of the card tomorrow (its dimensions are different). Let me know what you think of this one!

Once you learn to appreciate the joy of your own company, undisturbed by the noise other energies can bring, there is nothing that can top this feeling of blissful alignment with yourself. This instalment in the series tries to capture exactly that.

If there was one frame I could pick of my life that showed me consumed with ideas to take care of myself, zero thoughts about what’s happening in the outside world. Meticulously taking out time to do my hair, skincare and prepare my meals, it would be this one.
