How to clean a New Mask?⁠🤿
⁠
1. TOOTHPASTE METHOD:⁠ 🦷
Using toothpaste is the most reliable way to gently abrade the silicone layer away without damaging the tempered glass. ⁠
Choose the right toothpaste: Use a basic, white, non-gel toothpaste. Avoid whitening formulas, mint flavors, or toothpastes with colored crystals or harsh microbeads, as these can scratch the glass or irritate your eyes later.⁠
⁠
Apply the paste: Squeeze a thimble-sized dollop directly onto the inside and outside of the completely dry lenses. Scrub vigorously: Use your clean fingertip to rub the paste in firm, circular motions across every single millimeter of the glass. Concentrate heavily on the inside lens. Do not use an abrasive kitchen sponge or steel wool, as this will scratch your mask.Rinse completely: Wash away all the residue with clean, fresh water. Repeat 3 to 5 times: the manufacturing layer is stubborn. When you think you have scrubbed enough, do it again.⁠

1. BURN IT AWAY:⁠ 🔥
The Lighter Trick: Divers often pass the tip of a flame from a lighter quickly across the inside of the glass lens to burn the silicone film off. The glass will turn black with soot, which you then wipe away with a cloth. Warning: Do this very carefully; keeping the flame in one spot for too long can shatter the glass or melt the soft silicone skirt of your mask. Do not use this method if your mask has plastic (polycarbonate) lenses or special UV coatings. ⁠
⁠
Always dry your mask with a clean, lint-free microfiber towel or allow it to air-dry completely in the shade before storing it away!⁠
