I was a @talksport news reader for the first time today! ❤️

Freelance broadcasting means constantly stepping into the unfamiliar.

Today reminded me we can do far more than we give ourselves credit for!

One of the scariest parts about being a freelance newsreader is learning new stuff ALL the time.

Every studio and newsroom does things differently - so you have to learn so many processes! It’s a challenge but keeps it all fresh.

This week I’ll be reading the news at Talksport for the first time. Nervous but also excited!

What’s the difference between reading the news and actually sounding like a newsreader.

These are my thoughts after 20+ years in the industry.

Is there anything that surprised you?

Or anything you would like to know?!

Anything can happen on Live TV!!

Can you spot my mistake here? I was live on air at Channel 5 News - it’s not huge but it’s an example of where you have to keep calm and carry on.

Also - I always like to be word perfect - so I was berating myself for ages afterwards. When you’re on air it feels like the biggest blooper in the world!!

What is actually happening 60 seconds before a radio newsreader goes live on air?! All sorts! There’s a lot to do and things can change at last second - but when I go live on air I have to sound completely CALM!

Follow for more newsroom banter and behind the scenes ❤️

Got to sit in while John Goodman talked about his new film Digger!

Most days it’s serious headlines. Today, this. One of the best bits about freelance life.

Follow for more of what my job looks like.

5 minutes before I went live, this happened…all sorts of things happen just when you’re about to go on air. Last minute changes, script editing, obviously breaking news - but sometimes silly stuff like this!

Follow for more of what this job actually looks like behind the scenes!
