POSTS STORIES REELS

Another group game that will sure have everyone laughing, working together, and communicating!

Great for kids and adults!

Just tie 4 strings to a marker and draw a simple image you would like each group to try to replicate. I did a simple house. It could also be theme related like a Christmas tree. I had all groups do the same image as it was funny to compare at the end.

Teams must work together to copy the image onto a new paper while only using one string each to control the marker.

Taping down the paper was helpful.

You can make whatever rules work for you. We said your hand had to be far enough on the string that your hand wasn’t directly above the paper (meaning they weren’t holding the string very close to the marker).

If you’d like to see exactly how I tied my strings on the marker check out my reel a couple posts back as I show it at the end of that reel that uses the same set up (the maze reel).

This can be done just with one group or many groups.

Enjoy this one! And stay tuned for more group games! by @diyteach

Change your name for the day!

Oh boy. This was HILARIOUS!

For a whole day we allowed the kids to change their names. Some switched names with their friends, some switched their names to their favourite colour, food, flower etc, and some just came up with something funny.

They each got a name tag (from Dollarama) with their new name written on it, and everyone called them that name for the whole day.

Such a fun way to add some laughs and community building to your day.

Group challenge! Great for kids, youth and adults!

Human ball run and this one was trickier than I expected.

We found groups of 4 worked best. Each partner set had two sets of ropes. Each person held one side of the two ropes.

The goal was to go from the first person, down to their parter, and then pass it to the next partner pair, and roll it to the last person.

Sounds easy? 😅 It wasn’t. It was amazing for communication, teamwork, and persistence.

Both the rope and the balls were from Dollarama. We found the lighter foam balls worked best. @dollaramafindsca @dollaramaontario

If you need a challenge… add another set of partners to make it 6 per group.

Note… you’ll also need someone to drop the balls for each group.

Have fun with this one and follow along for more group challenges like this one! Have a scroll down my page for lots more too! by @diyteach

Another group game that will sure have everyone laughing, working together, and communicating!

Great for kids and adults!

Just tie 4 strings to a marker and print out a free pdf maze. Teams must work together to navigate their maze while only using one string each to control the marker.

You can make whatever rules work for you. We said your hand had to be far enough on the string that your hand wasn’t directly above the paper (meaning they weren’t holding the string very close to the marker). We also said that the line had to be connected so if there were gaps, they had to go back and fill in the gaps.

This can be done just with one group or many groups and can be competitive (first group to do it) or non-competitive (working together to just complete the maze).

Highly recommend printing more than one maze as they will likely want to do it more than once! They can get progressively harder too.

Crawford Lake’s new boardwalk is now open and I couldn’t be more excited! @conservationhalton

It’s about a 1.5 km boardwalk around the beautiful lake. Stroller accessible and toddler friendly.

It’s a beautiful family walk. Definitely recommend. by @diyteach

Clovermead Adventure Farm & Honey Shop
@clovermead_

10/10 recommend.

On the ride home, all the kids could say was “That was the best day ever!” and “When can we come back?”.

One of my favourite parts was that there were amazing things for all ages… my two year old had as much fun as my 11 year old.

When I say there is a lot to do, it’s an understatement! We were there the whole day and we didn’t even do everything. I also love how unique and creative everything is. Definitely not your average play area!

I also love that it is honey bee themed with learning sprinkled in everywhere.

This month, September, they are doing their Wonderful World of Bees show Monday to Friday, twice a day (at 10:30am and 2pm) where you can learn more about honey bees and even get to pet a drone bee (male with no stinger).

I couldn’t more highly recommend a trip here. Save this for the future or go and enjoy their Fall Festival!

All the info and tickets are on the website! They are also celebrating grandparents this month with free admission for them and homeschoolers with a discounted rate! by @diyteach

Rock Paper Scissors Group Game that’s a ton of fun for a variety of ages (even adults) and requires little prep and materials!

The group is split into two teams and each team lines up on their side of the track. I used sidewalk chalk to make the track to jump on. If you were doing it inside, you could use papers taped to the floor.

The first player on each team starts by two foot hopping on each track spot. When the two meet up, they rock paper scissor. The winners keeps going, while the loser goes back to the end of their line. The loosing team sends out the second member of their team who has to hop and meet up with the other player. When they meet, they rock paper scissors. Again, the winner keeps going, while the loser goes back to the end of their line. The loosing team sends out the next player and so on.

The game ends when one teams makes it all the way to the other team’s starting line.

Definitely a fun one! by @diyteach

Last weekend we went to the @airshowlondon for the first time and we had a great time!

So many aviation related things to explore on the ground, like going into many different planes, vendors, and food trucks.

The show part of it is like a drive in movie. You get a parking spot and can watch from your car. We brought chairs and a picnic and it was great. You listen through a radio. The planes and show were fantastic! SO many cool planes taking off and landing right in front of you. This video was one of our favourites but there were so many.

Highly recommend for any aviation lovers out there, although I’m sure you will still enjoy it even if you aren’t! Our whole family did.

Definitely save for next year. All their information is well explained on their website too about what to expect, how to get there and what to bring. by @diyteach

We recently have done a couple road trips and have tried a couple new family games.

This flag game is so simple but was a definite winner with our kids.

When you see a Canadian flag, you call out “flag”. Each time you are the first person to see that flag, you get a point.

Super simple, but had everyone looking at the scenery, laughing and having fun together.

What’s your favourite thing to do in the car as a family? by @diyteach

I love to use clothes pins for activities for littles ones. They are usually engaged by them and it adds a fine motor element as well, getting those little fingers ready for writing eventually.

This can be done for numbers, letters, letters in the child’s name, colours, shapes and more!

Just add a matching set to a clothes pin and a small piece of wood and have the child match them up. We do this every couple days and now he is ready for me to add 6-10.

Both the clothes pins and small pieces of wood are from Dollarama.

Loot bag buffet idea!

I did this for my son’s birthday party with card games. I’ve also done it with small packs of Lego before and it also worked great.

Put out empty loot bags (labeling them is ideal) and a bunch of card games on a table. At the end of the party, the child gets to pick the game they would like to take home in their loot bag.

I love this because it’s not a junk loot bag (which is a high priority for me), it’s a family connection opportunity, the kids get to choose a game they don’t already have at home (without me knowing what games they already have at home), it can easily be tailored to age, and it’s great for a party with siblings as they can choose different games from each other and add to their collection.

Highly recommend this small shift in loot bags! Let me know your thoughts! by @diyteach

It’s been a month with this sweet babe. We couldn’t be happier. 💕

Photos done by @christinemironphotography. She was SO good. She did family photos and sibling photos for us too. Her patience and skill were amazing. I’d definitely recommend! by @diyteach
