@mshuckerow sure knows how to roll out a red carpet. The only appropriate way to describe my first trip to Alaska is that I’ve already booked my next trip back. Matt greeted us in Anchorage, then took us all out to the Kenai River for some salmon fishing, and wedged in a trip to Homer for a couple days out of the water.

Matt taught us the finer points of “flossing” where you bounce the weighted line along the bottom of the river to land it in the salmon’s mouth as it swims up river. With a slight jerk back towards the shoreline, you hook the fish (without bait) and the catch begins. We happened to hit the river during some of the highest fish counts all year, so they were practically jumping into the boat.

The best fishing on the trip was our 9:30 PM run on the first day. The sun doesn’t set until just before midnight, so it felt like late afternoon when we got in the boat. We found a great spot and we all damn near hit our fish limits in about an hour. It was insane.

In Homer, we took a water taxi to Saltry, a restaurant only accessible by water taxi in Halibut Cove. We ate dinner and drank oyster shooters in the company of bald eagles and sea otters. Pretty damn magical.

We then wrapped up our trip with a salmon processing assembly line where we cleaned, prepped, bagged, and vacuum sealed the roughly 100 fish we caught as a group. I brought home about 60 pounds to split between me and @kealy1988, and I don’t expect it to last long with the regular salmon consumption in my house (it’s my son’s favorite food).

And every moment in between is full of stories not fit to print. But what else would you expect when a bunch of fully grown adults get the opportunity to live like kids again?

Already counting the days until we head back north. Thanks for the trip, Shuck. And thanks to the rest of the boys for making this the trip of a lifetime.

What a day! We absolutely knocked them dead out on the water. 🎣

Fishing in Alaska with some of our best college buddies was an unforgettable experience—great friends, incredible scenery, and plenty of fish.

Day 4 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. @bandondunesgolf

Morale continues to decline.

Today we are being forced to play 37 holes after already completing 85 holes over the past three days. I genuinely think my knees may snap in half at any moment.

Conditions have been absolutely brutal… light morning dew, brisk afternoons, and the occasional patch of sunshine. Meanwhile every other video online makes it look like every other person to visit here battled sideways rain and 40 mph winds, so honestly we feel a little guilty complaining.

The worst part is the caddies somehow make all of this look effortless while carrying two bags across 36+ holes. They’ve completely made me question my workout routine. At this point I feel incredibly soft.

Another exhausting forced march. Another terrible evening of steak, whiskey, fireplaces, and ocean views.

I’ve loved the game of golf for a long time. And sharing something you love with someone you love is a special experience. Last week, I got to share it in an almost unimaginable scenario with 15 amazing men that I’m beyond grateful to have the opportunity to call my friends.

For a few years now, I’ve been planning an annual golf trip that goes by the name of the Pin High Tour. At the tail end of 2024, I entered the lottery draw for a spot on the tee sheets at @bandondunesgolf. A few months later, I was told that our ticket had been called and we had been approved for an opportunity to book for May-September of 2026. For reference, amongst our group we had upwards of three dozen people who put in for the lottery that did not get it, so to be drawn for that booking window is INCREDIBLY fortuitous.

After hours of planning and hundreds of emails, phone calls, and text messages, the stage was set.

Wednesday May 13th, 16 of us would make the 8-hour drive from Reno, NV to play Bandon Dunes, Old Macdonald, Bandon Trails, Pacific Dunes, and Sheep Ranch over a 3-day stretch.

The experience was Heaven on Earth. Golf Disneyland.

We truly lived like kings for those few days. We were there to golf, but what I’ll always remember most was the feeling of freedom while we were there. The worries of life melted away as we left the world behind. It was like being a kid again, running around with your idiot friends, playing made up games with nonsensical rules, and staying outside until the sun dropped.

All in all, we played 122 holes and walked about 45 miles to get that done. The caddies definitely made that possible. But the highlight of the metrics was the 0.00 inches of rain we experienced while playing. Straight up BanDiego weather. Apparently, it never rains at Bandon!

To the guys that took time away from their families (and more importantly, the wives that allowed them to make it happen), thank you for coming with me on my little adventure.

I’ll look forward to dragging you all to our next spot in 2027!
