I’ve heard it before.
“You spend that much on sports?”
And honestly?
They’re not wrong.
Sports are expensive.
The tournament fees.
The gas.
The flights.
The hotel rooms.
The equipment.
The clothes.
The lessons.
The team dinners.
The endless stops for snacks and Gatorades.

Could we buy newer vehicles? Probably.
Could we take more vacations? Absolutely.
Could we spend that money on other things? Without question.
But here’s what people don’t always see…
We’re not only paying for goals, tries, recognition, routines, or trophies.
We’re investing in confidence.
We’re investing in friendships.
We’re investing in discipline, resilience, leadership, teamwork, time management, accountability, and learning how to handle both success and disappointment.

We’re helping our children discover what they love and giving them every opportunity to chase it.
One day the uniforms will be packed away.
The trophies will collect dust.
The fields, courts, rinks, and gyms will eventually be left behind.
But the person they become because of those experiences?
That stays with them forever.

So yes, our vehicle may have a few more miles on it.
We may skip a vacation here and there.
We may sacrifice things other families choose to prioritize.
And that’s okay.
Because one day when the games are over, I won’t remember the car I drove.
I’ll remember sitting in the stands.
I’ll remember the early mornings.
I’ll remember watching my child light up doing something they loved.
And to me, that’s worth every penny.
Sometimes the greatest investment isn’t in things - it’s in experiences and it also means that we are living.
