This evening I received the heartbreaking news that my godfather, family and mentor, Tyrone “Fly Ty” Williams, has passed away.

Fly Ty was more than a father and guidance He was the former CEO of Cold Chillin’ Records — he was an integral architect of Hip Hop as a whole. He is an amazing philanthropist, a champion for artists, a passionate mentor and one of the earliest people to help me learn the music industry. His laugh could fill a room, and his love for Hip Hop and the people he helped was as deep as the legacy he helped build.

A few weeks ago, he and I spoke about helping get investors to further the work he did with The Hip Hop Museum. Ironically, one of the artist I worked with did a song for the museum. I joked with him about not calling me back abd that he needed to stay on his health as i always would tease him. One of my fathers childhood friend and inspiration for some of my biggest achievements. I got tontell him about getting into the Olympics, finding good lawyers and just having life conversations. He was adored by his children and the children whose lives he affected as the Brooklyn United program became a global icon.

That is why today hurts so much.i lost a second dad, a mentor and a confidant. So many of us wouldnt be doing music if it wasnt for him

Tyrone believed in people and standing on your own morals. He instilled confidence in yourself from the very beginning. He understood what preserving your memories. His support, his wisdom, and his presence meant more than he ever knew.

Today we honor a visionary, a leader, a father , a legend and a man whose impact will echo through Hip Hop forever.

Rest in power, Fly Ty.
