Watching the US Open this year, I found myself drawn to the intensity, rhythm, and dedication of the players.
I played tennis seriously in high school, so I still find myself watching the body closely. How it adjusts, reaches, and pushes through each moment.

Congratulations to all the players who gave everything to the tournament.

I wondered what rest would look like if it had a color.

The body sometimes lets go before the mind does.
Everything slows. The room grows quiet. The edges begin to blur.

For me, rest is time spent with myself.
The noise of the outside world drifts away for a while, and the body slowly sinks into its surroundings.

I wanted this painting to stay in that brief moment between movement and rest, between presence and absence.
Not quite stopped. Not gone.
Just everything easing for a while, with something still there.

And then, a return to myself.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about lightness.

Not because the world has become lighter, but because it hasn’t.

Living in a time shaped by uncertainty, conflict, and an endless stream of information, I’ve started wondering whether painting can respond differently—instead of simply repeating that weight.

To me, lightness is not the opposite of depth.

It is another way of carrying weight.

For as long as I can remember, there’s always been something a little surreal about carousels to me.

The longer I watch one, the stranger it feels.

It keeps turning, but nothing stays at the same height.

Some horses rise, others fall.

They’re all part of the same movement.

Lately, life has felt a little like that.

Not really divided into highs and lows. More like one rhythm, carrying us through different heights.

We move with it. Sometimes we lose our balance. Sometimes we get it back.

Looking back, all those different heights were part of the same circle.

There are moments when thousands of strangers become a single voice.

For ninety minutes, a stadium breathes as one. Then the final whistle sounds, and the crowd empties out, seat by seat, until only the color remains.

Roar was painted to mark the 2026 FIFA World Cup. But this work is less about football than about what remains after that shared voice has faded.

In my recent work, I have approached the body not as a fixed form, but as a site that absorbs experience and carries the traces of what has passed through it. Here, the figure remains where the crowd once was. It did not create the roar. It absorbed it, and now carries what remains.

When the match is over, what stays with us is rarely the final score.

It is what the body holds after the voices have disappeared.

Roar is a record of what remains.

PENDING

For this exhibition, I brought together works that can stand as individual scenes, while also feeling as though they belong to the same world, continuing and shifting from one to another.

The figures never fully settle into a single form. They appear, dissolve, gather themselves again, and remain somewhere in between.

Pending comes from that state.

Not quite an arrival, not quite a disappearance. Something still in the process of becoming.

I’ve long thought of the body as a place where memory, pressure, and experience accumulate. Seeing these works together, I began to think of them less as separate moments and more as different states of the same world.

Still shifting.
Still unresolved.
Still present.

The body is not a fixed form, but a place in constant reconfiguration.

This charcoal study was made before beginning a new painting , a way of tracing the movement of that transformation.

For me, painting is less about arriving at a finished form than about witnessing the time it takes for a form to come into being.
