I’ve been meaning to share an honest update about where things stand.

Since my six-day hospitalization in July, I’ve been trying to get answers about the severe, persistent headaches and other symptoms that turned my life upside down. Imaging showed underdeveloped veins involved in draining blood from my brain, but there still isn’t a clear explanation for everything I’ve been experiencing. I’ve seen specialists, changed medications, and kept following up. The headaches are still here, and I’m taking this one appointment and one day at a time.

The hospital stay is over, but the bill is still very real. My current NKC Health balance is $17,664.43, and my application for financial assistance is pending. That’s what six days in the hospital can cost you, on top of losing your job, your apartment, and the life you thought you had. I’m not sharing this for pity. I’m sharing it because this is the part of recovery people don’t always see when they ask how you’re doing.

And I need to give Sam the shout-out she deserves. She’s been an absolute trooper through all of this. Beyond moving in with her, she’s been a source of moral strength, stability, and safety that I could never have asked for, but desperately needed. Four months in, we’re stronger than ever. We’re still living life and loving life, just a little differently than before all this began. I don’t take for granted having her beside me through it.

I’m still rebuilding, but I have reasons to feel hopeful. I’m still showing up, still making plans, and still finding good moments in the middle of all this. I’m grateful for every person who has checked in, sent a message, prayed, helped, or simply stayed in my corner through a stretch that has been heavier than I know how to explain.

Last night, in the middle of a torrential downpour, I spotted this sweet boy alone on a bridge over the train tracks. Cars were flying past at 50-plus miles an hour, and I was terrified he’d get hurt.

Then he came right up to me and hopped into my car like he knew he’d be safe. He rode shotgun, and when we stopped at QT, he absolutely demolished a fresh hot dog. Once we got going, he sat so nicely in the back seat. He knew “sit” and even how to shake hands. Just the sweetest, best boy.

Both Urgent Care Vet Clinic in Liberty and KC Pet Project checked him for a microchip, but neither found one. KC Pet Project has him safe now for his stray hold. His Animal ID is 61823333; after the hold, he may become available for adoption.

Second date review: 10/10. Penguins were seen. Googly eyes were made. A stingray attempted emotional attachment. 🐧

It was one of those days that felt simple on paper but really special in real life. Zoo day, lots of walking, sunscreen, laughs, kisses, and getting to watch someone light up around one of her favorite animals.

The unexpected MVP was definitely the “sea flap flap”, aka the stingray that tried to climb out of the touch exhibit and give Sam a hug after she pet its spine. I respect the enthusiasm.

The whole trip was sweet, silly, comfortable, and incredibly memorable. Just a really good day with a really wonderful person.

"Ignite the light, and let it shine…”

That line hits a little different when the room actually does.

From loading gear into the car, to walking into a blank space, to watching the room turn into an experience, this is the part of event production I love most.

Earlier this season, I had the chance to be part of the Hotel KC adventure as Production Sponsor for @fosteradoptconnect 's Gala "Elevate: A Night Above the City", alongside The Perdue Collective as MCs for the evening.

Since then, the vision has only gotten clearer:

A room is never just a room.

It is atmosphere waiting to happen.
