Di man bring him own flavour pon di track, mixin smooth vocals wid di kinda energy weh keep di Dancehall moving. Him know how fi ride di rhythm an deliver him lyrics inna him own unique way. Back inna dem days, Wayne Marshall was building him name as one a di talented singjay dem, an tunes like dis help cement him place inna di Jamaican music scene. Marshall Town! Wayne Marshall representing him style, him sound an him own territory. Real Dancehall vibes! 🔥🇯🇲 by @djfoforwc
Back inna 2003–2004, Elephant Man did deh pon a serious international run, an “Jook Gal (Wine Wine)” was one a dem tune weh show exactly why dem call him di Energy God. Di tune come from Ele album Good 2 Go, released through VP/Atlantic, right when Jamaican Dancehall did a buss heavy overseas. “Jook Gal” ride pon di wicked Coolie Dance riddim, produced by Cordell “Scatta” Burrell — one a dem early-2000s riddim weh mash up dance an sound system all over Jamaica an way beyond. But dis one never stay only inna Jamaica. Di album version link Elephant Man an Kiprich wid Bone Crusher an Lil Jon, bringing Dancehall together wid dat raw Southern crunk energy weh did a dominate American clubs at di time. Later, di Head Gawn Remix push di crossover even further, bringing Twista an YoungBloodZ alongside Ele an Kiprich. So yuh basically get Kingston link Atlanta an Chicago pon one Dancehall riddim. Straight Caribbean energy mix wid American hip-hop, but Ele still keep di Jamaican flavor right deh front an centre. An di whole tune built fi movement. “Jook,” “wine,” an all dem commands fit perfectly wid Elephant Man style back den. Ele wasn't just voicing tunes — di man used to turn song into dance instruction. Same era weh give wi big dancing tunes like “Pon De River Pon De Bank” an “Signal De Plane.” Once Ele start call di moves, everybody inna di dance know seh a action time! Di Head Gawn version wid Twista, YoungBloodZ an Kiprich even land pon Reggae Gold 2004, showing how far di tune travel outside Jamaica. “Jook Gal” represent one special era when Dancehall culture did a spread worldwide, an Elephant Man was right deh pon di frontline. Pure dancing, pure energy, big riddim an international link-up — but di heartbeat still straight outta Jamaica. Energy God business! 🇯🇲🔥 by @djfoforwc
T.O.K. – Solid As A Rock 🇯🇲🔥 “Solid As A Rock” originally drop round 2004 from Jamaican dancehall group T.O.K., pon di powerful Thrilla Riddim, produced by Christopher Birch (Birchill). Di original 7-inch release come out pon di Echo label, an later di tune find itself pon Riddim Driven: Thrilla, as well as T.O.K.’s album Unknown Language. Di Thrilla Riddim was one a dem serious juggling riddim weh carry some heavyweight names from dat era. Pon di same riddim yuh coulda hear artists like Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel, Elephant Man, Lady Saw, Kiprich, Voicemail, Red Rat an Ce’Cile, among others. T.O.K. kick off di project wid “Solid As A Rock,” while Bounty Killer come wid “Stand Firm” an Vybz Kartel deliver “More Life.” Di whole spirit behind “Solid As A Rock” is about unity, strength an perseverance. T.O.K. a represent demself as a crew weh stay firm even when people waan see dem fall. Keep yuh eyes forward, nah step back, an stay together when pressure come down. Di tune also carry references to Jah, giving di message an even deeper sense of faith, strength an determination. An dat fit T.O.K. perfectly, because one a di things weh always separate dem from plenty other dancehall acts was how dem blend group harmonies wid deejaying an singjaying. “Solid As A Rock” really show off dat chemistry. It nuh feel like one singer pon a tune wid three man backing him up — it sound like a whole crew making one statement together. Over di years, di tune remain one a di recognizable selections from T.O.K.’s catalogue. An interesting enough, when T.O.K. return fi perform in Jamaica in 2026, Craigy T even use di same expression — “Solid as a rock” — when talking about di group coming back together, more than twenty years after di original tune drop. At di heart of it, “Solid As A Rock” represent exactly weh T.O.K. stand for inna dat period of dancehall: times can change, artists can rise an fall, obstacles can come from every direction, but di crew still deh yah — united, focused an standing firm. Solid as a rock. 🇯🇲🔥 by @djfoforwc
🎵 DMX, Sean Paul & Mr. Vegas — “Top Shotter” “Top Shotter” drop back inna 1998, pon di soundtrack fi di movie Belly, directed by Hype Williams. Di soundtrack officially land November 3, 1998, an “Top Shotter” come in as track number 8, bringing together DMX, Sean Paul an Mr. Vegas pon one serious combination. One big piece a di story is di man behind di production — Jamaica own Tony “CD” Kelly, one a di key producers weh help shape dancehall sound through di late ’90s an early 2000s. Di writing credits link Anthony Kelly alongside Earl Simmons (DMX), Sean Paul Henriques an Clifford Smith (Mr. Vegas). 🇯🇲 Jamaica link up wid New York A right yah so di tune get extra interesting. “Top Shotter” bring two powerful street sounds together — hardcore New York hip-hop through DMX, an raw Jamaican dancehall through Sean Paul an Mr. Vegas. An memba, dis a Sean Paul before him turn di worldwide superstar everybody come fi know inna di 2000s. At dis stage, him still a rise through di Jamaican dancehall scene, carrying di sound further into di American market. Mr. Vegas bring him unmistakable dancehall delivery, while DMX come wid dat rough New York energy. Tony Kelly production hold everything together, so it never feel like just one rap tune wid two Jamaican artistes pon it. A proper dancehall-meets-hip-hop fusion, wid both sides keeping dem own identity. 🎬 Di Belly connection Being pon di Belly soundtrack give di tune another level a history. Dat project carry some heavyweight hip-hop names — DMX, Nas, Method Man, Ja Rule, Jay-Z, Wu-Tang Clan an Gang Starr — while “Top Shotter” put Sean Paul an Mr. Vegas right inside dat New York hip-hop atmosphere. Mr. Vegas even show up again pon di soundtrack wid “Sucky Ducky,” another Tony Kelly production, making di Jamaican connection even stronger. 🔥 So wah “Top Shotter” really mean? Inna Jamaican street slang, “shotta” or “shotter” carry di image of a badman — somebody tough, feared an respected inna di street environment. Pon dis tune, di term help build dat hard-edged attitude weh connect naturally wid both Jamaican dancehall culture an DMX hardcore h by @djfoforwc

🇯🇲 Anything Goes — Wayne Wonder, CNN & Lexxus “Anything Goes” drop inna one serious time fi Dancehall, when di music did a push hard outta Jamaica an start tek over di international scene. Di tune come offa Red Star Sounds Presents Def Jamaica, one project weh build fi bring American hip-hop an Jamaican Dancehall together pon one platform. Even Billboard did highlight di tune as one a di tracks weh really show dat balance — Wayne Wonder bring him smooth melodic style, while CNN an Lexxus come wid di rougher energy from di hip-hop an Dancehall side. Behind di production yuh have none odda than Tony “CD” Kelly, one a di key producers weh help shape Dancehall sound inna dat era. Di tune become linked wid di Anything Goes Riddim, from 2003, produced by Tony Kelly himself. Musically, di combination have one different kinda flavour. Wayne Wonder glide pon di riddim wid dat smooth voice weh everybody know him for, while CNN an Lexxus bring di raw energy — New York rap meeting Jamaican deejay style straight up. Di message darker an more confrontational than Wayne Wonder tunes like No Letting Go, dealing wid rivalry, distrust an watching out fi people weh nuh genuine. Di whole vibe basically seh: keep yuh eyes open an know who really deh round yuh. Yuh haffi remember weh Wayne Wonder career did deh round dat time too. “Anything Goes” stand out as one a him big collaborations wid CNN an Lexxus pon Def Jamaica, an di project even pick up a Grammy nomination fi Best Reggae Album. Years later, di tune still never disappear from Wayne Wonder catalogue — him still a draw fi it when him touch stage. At di end a di day, “Anything Goes” capture one important piece a early-2000s Dancehall history. Jamaica link wid New York, Dancehall buck up pon hip-hop, an two different street sounds meet pon one riddim. Dat crossover energy is exactly weh mek di tune still interesting when yuh look back pon dat era. 🇯🇲🔥 by @djfoforwc
