🎉 25 Years of GUAPO! 🎉
Jean Paul Gaultier

In 2026 I'm celebrating 25 years as DJ GUAPO. I've launched a new website and YouTube channel. I opened my archives for video artist Philipe Desmarais to create highlight reels from my musical adventures!

Today marks the 15th anniversary of Jean Paul Gaultier's Pinkarnaval, which launched on July 16, 2011 during the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal.

This spectacular street parade brought together music, fashion, dance, and circus, with over 2,000 performers, transforming downtown Montreal into a glamorous fantasy world inspired by the imagination of Jean Paul Gaultier!

The parade featured DJ Evalicious (supermodel and Jean Paul Gaultier's muse Eve Salvail) before culminating in a massive finale at Place des Festivals, where I performed the closing set inside a DJ booth shaped like a giant pink stiletto shoe!

The original music for the parade was composed by Quicksound who was the Musical Director.

As Music Coordinator, my role was to coordinate the composition and recording of the soundtrack. I also spent days digging through Jean Paul Gaultier interviews to sample his voice for the music and for immersive video installations created by Gridspace.

To assist us we enlisted the talents of orchestral composer Mark Hoeppner and acclaimed soul singer Michelle Sweeney.

Created by Danielle Roy and Roybox in collaboration with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Pinkarnaval was an unforgettable production. It was a pleasure to help bring Danielle's vision to life and an honor to collaborate with the iconic Jean Paul Gaultier.

🎵 The track I'm DJing in this clip is "So Fine" by one of my all-time favorite house producers, Ian Pooley. Big thanks to Pooled Music!

Over the coming months, I'll be sharing more rare footage and behind-the-scenes stories from 25 years of being GUAPO !

It was an honor to be chosen to perform the Closing Set at my favorite festival! At the time I thought it was going to be the final edition of Timeless run by @festoche.bamboche .

It made me elevate my game to try and deliver a truly memorable closing set.

I'm overjoyed that @maline_coleslaw @maxlarocque321 and their team decided to keep the festival going! Mega props for creating this amazing fest every year!

I had the privilege of playing on the BASSIX ME LUV stage on the Bassix Soundsystem which is by far my favorite sound system in Canada!

Thanks to @mtl.bassix and @musikmeluv for all your hard work and talent!

It was a wild set full of smiling dancing people. The combo of silly, funky and badass was embraced by the crowd. We built an epic closing together!

The full set on Soundcloud has 3200 listens. Check it out. Link is in my bio.

VIDEO CREDITS :

Mega props to the talented Philipe Desmarais aka @phil1pe for his incredible editing & VFX to create this montage! He was the cameraman filming the slow motion footage. Big up!

Mega props to @davidwallyrawalia

Mega props to the teams that designed that incredible stage :
@la_tek_crew , @post.bliss , @lapointecloe , @charlouflorent .

The theme of the fest this year was the Neverending Story. Mega props to team that brought Falkor to life to come dance with us!

Mega props to the dearly departed @jonasabel23 & @el.marguerite.blanche for the encouragement they gave me at this fest back in 2018 when I was struggling to re-invent myself musically. This performance is dedicated to their memory. RIP

Glastonbury Festival 2024 has begun in the UK! My feed is flooded with videos. Brings back nostalgic memories. So here is a video from when I performed there in 2008 with SUNS OF ARQA.

We played on the East Dance Stage in the dance village alongside artists such as Fatboy Slim, Roisin Murphy, Roni Size, A-Trak, UNKLE etc...

Such an incredible festival. Three days of mayhem on a 1000 acre farm with over 177,000 spectators and at least 50 different stages.

Big up to bandleader Wadada and drummer Dids who are no longer with us.

25 YEARS OF GUAPO : 20,000 SPECTATORS CLOSING SET TERRAKARNAVAL

To celebrate 25 years as DJ GUAPO, I’ve launched www.djguapo.com and opened my archives for video artist @phil1pe to create highlight from my adventures!

In 2012, I was Music Coordinator for TERRAKARNAVAL at Place des Festivals in Montreal at the Just For Laughs Festival.

Created by Danielle Roy of Roybox and Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté, TERRAKARNAVAL was a week of massive productions combining music & circus arts with 2,000+ performers!

I was working with Quicksound the Musical Director & Composer of the project. My role was coordinating the recording of the original music, booking session musicians, negotiating contracts and publishing splits, and booking DJs and VJs for the two main stages.

For the closing event, we took over the main stage. The first half featured Quicksound performing live with a full band, including 15-time Grammy Award-winning Venezuelan percussionist Luisito Quintero (Masters at Work, Tito Puente, Herbie Hancock, Celia Cruz etc.)

Then I delivered the closing DJ set accompanied by the robot dancers of @blackmohawkproductions and acclaimed Mexican aerial artist @yammel Caramel.

Black Mohawk brought futuristic energy with robotic choreography and wild, sexy costumes, while Yammel added aerial acrobatics and her own striking presence.

The immersive video projections were created by my S.A.T. Mix Sessions collaborators : VJs Jocool, Liberty and Pink Rubber Lady. They transformed the stage and surrounding architecture of UQAM and Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal. Spaceships descended toward the stage in the projections, with the dancers emerging from them.

Performing for more than 20,000 people was unreal. It was the biggest crowd I had ever played for, and the production level was on another planet. It was such a joy to collaborate with everyone!

The track in this vid is “Obsidian” by my homie Toby, the artist known as @banco_de_gaia. Such a sublime song and a perfect fit for the performance that night!

Big up to my homie Phil1pe for digging through the archives to create this video!

25 years of being GUAPO. More wild adventures coming soon! by @djguapo23

My favorite festival is back !!

Performing the festival closing set at Timeless last year was such an incredible honour. This year the closing will be done by my Flamingo Funk partner DJ MELODRASTIC and she will kill it like she always does!

This year I'll be doing three sets on three different stages!

- Main Set
Bass House / UKG / DnB opening night at 4am at the Antropocene Stage.

- Reggae flavored Bass Music set Sunday 9am on the Bassix Me Luv Stage

- Chillout Set of traditional Middle Eastern / Anatolian music mixed with Deep House at the Relaxation Lounge on Sunday at 8pm.

Can't wait to see you all there ! After my main set at Antropocene, Don Mescal will be playing!

For my Reggae set I'm playing after Treize and before Icky Magdala.

So stoked!

Montreal Artists and Cultural industry workers please sign the petition to renew Montreals historic ties to Anti Apartheid and Anti Genocide movements. On Aug 24 there will be a protest outside City Hall while the city votes on a motion of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

We need to show the Mayor that Montreal has not lost its humanity and staunchly supports the victims of Genocide.

"Never Again" applies to all of humanity. The Mayor must cut ties with the special interests groups that are funding, enabling and enacting the genocide in Gaza and the slaughter in Lebanon.

Sign the petition here and join us August 24:

Milestone Unlocked! Just passed 75,000 plays on Soundcloud!

In 2016 i joined Soundcloud just to listen to music. In December 2024 I made a Soundcloud Pro account and uploaded my tracks and DJ mixes. Took me 20 months to get to 75k.

Thanks everyone who listened!

The past month has been my busiest yet with 17,646 plays.

Feels really good that people all over the world are vibing with what I do. I'm grateful! xoxo
