Still smiling from seeing @bonnylighthorseman Sunday night at The Ford in LA. They’re making their way up the West Coast, catch them if you can. I don’t travel to LA for shows like I used to but it was worth every cent and every second to see them.

Show notes: Sat next to Mark Duplass and Katie Aselton. Of course, when they sat down all I could do was sputter, “wow, you look really familiar.” Good one, genius! And then I was trying to figure out exactly who it was, so I got to drive myself crazy with that. They could not have been cooler or better fans. Totally into it, singing along, drumming along, air guitar-ing etc.

The Ford is the BEST. Best setting, best staff, best sound. It holds 1,200. You can bring in food and beer/wine, and there are areas to picnic, hang, etc. The folks next to me on the other side were there bc they bought tix to multiple shows at The Ford and thought BLH might be cool. At the encore break I asked what they thought and the woman (in her @williesreserveofficial hoodie) had tears in her eyes and said she was totally blown away by the vocals. So rad.

I’m a huge @fruit_bats fan and have been since Neal introduced me to them back in the 2009-2010 time frame. I think Eric is the best songwriter alive rn but dude toiled in relative obscurity for many years. Super stoked for Eric and this whole band. The new double album (Keep Me on Your Mind / See You Free) is excellent, a big evolution in BLH’s songwriting. (You may have heard that their song “Old Dutch” made Barack’s summer playlist - how cool is that?!?)

BLH’s drummer, JT Bates, was f-ing great. Took about 20 seconds to go, “wow, the drummer is understated but in complete control.” Looked him up to find he has about 50 albums to his name, including TS’s Folklore and Evermore. (That got Lucy’s attention.) He has played on all 3 BLH albums and really owned his space. Great player.

Someone is trying to hide from her birthday - can you please help me to make sure that @courtneybren gets ALL of the birthday love she deserves today? And, to do my part and so it doesn’t seem like I’m slacking (never!), I will try to make sure to keep her in 50 more years of travel and adventures and smiles.
