I had a moment yesterday when I got home from work and saw this box sitting on the table.

I knew what it was but couldn’t believe it was real. When I retired from music in 2015 I would have bet my life I was done forever. I was at peace with the decision to use my time and energy in different areas.

So to open that box and hold a record of my music in my hand for the first time in 21/22 years was weird. It felt familiar but not. Like I was remembering someone else’s memory.

This release is not groundbreaking or something with mass appeal for the DJs. It’s not going to chart or be something that is all over the charts.

But it means something to me. It’s something that captures a feeling in my body and mind from 1990. Told through kick drums, high hats, pads and bass lines. It’s an opening sentence of my life story, pressed on wax. It’s something I think folks can put on 22 years from now and still connect to.

I’m not returning to this art form and craft to be liked. I’m retiring to tell my story and stories of what I saw, heard, felt and lived from 1990-2015.
That’s my goal. And I appreciate my family for letting me have time and space to pursue, for @homeroespinosa and @djjohnglass supporting me via Moulton and my friends for putting wind in my creative sails. Extra hat tip to @loren_t and @djaaronpaar and @ravinald and @rayshafikeid for various things they’ve helped with our gave me time and energy on. Thanks to @vinylfuture for helping bring the record to market.

Release date 11/6/26. Limited run.
Until the next dance.

I’ve just started this book but I think I can recommend. Another passage that caught my eye: “What makes the 1990s unique is the massive amount of information to potentially misremember, amplified by the nonexistentence of a cybernated depository where that information could be indexed”.

I.e the internet. I am finding it harder and harder to hold onto visceral memory of what daily life felt like before the internet and social media. I can tell how we did things, what tools we used but recalling the feeling is harder. Feeling the feeling feels impossible. Sometimes I can unlock that memory through the music. It’s one reason I’m so into this project I’m doing.

If you lived through the 90s as an adult. What do you remember about daily life before the internet and social media occupied a vast majority of our day? by @djjohnglass

Pick a year between 1995 and 2000. Let me know what you remember most about that year. Could be musically, culturally, politically, economically, creatively. Whatever. As long it’s what you recall or remember fondly about that specific year: 95, 96, 97,98,99 or 2000. by @djjohnglass

It’s been nearly a year now since I had the inspiration to create this project. A project that pulled me back into the world of house music after a decade + away.

In pursuing the Custodian project, I have found something inside me I had felt since I was 19. Pure passion and deep love for the music, the craft and feelings they evoke.

Running Moulton Media in SF from 2000-2015 ruined my body, mind, soul AND my love of the music. The 15 years of unyielding stress eroded that passion the way water eats stone. Not all at once, but slowly, methodically over time.

Since pursuing this project, I have found myself having fun again. Being inspired and motivated to see this project through to its completion.

I am proud of what has been done thus far.
3 EP’s of music have been created. A blog launched and a love of writing re-born. The experiences of Get Connected are under way. The first one in July was invigorating. The next one is around the corner on November 14th. I’m loving preparing for them. Working on sets like I did when I was first learning how to DJ. Mixing in my headphones like I used to in my bedroom. Searching and digging for music from specific eras that speak to me and really analyzing the music in a sociological/historical way. Hearing how sounds were changing over the epochs as technology advanced and social systems broke down or rose up.

I’ve enjoyed uplift and support from my partners @homeroespinosa & @djjohnglass at Moulton. Have had support and encouragement from my wife and kids and close friends like @loren_t
All of which allow me time, space and confidence to continue this project.

I’m feeling extremely fulfilled by this experience and I look forward to sharing new music with folks in the next few weeks.

Thanks to all who support and enjoy this little project of mine. I see you. I appreciate you.
Respect
