Jupiter Disco’s very own time travel machine operators Lani and Rico are back with another night of classic throwbacks and deep cuts, and this time, we’re setting the dials to 100% pure focus on the magical decade that was 1990s.

You remember it: Pokémon and Tamagotchis, Reebok and The Gap, Michael Jordan’s Bulls and Derek Jeter’s Yankees, Blockbuster and RadioShack, Jurassic Park and The Matrix, Bill Clinton…! And if you don’t remember it, the second-hand nostalgia will transport you and take you on a fantastic voyage.

What’s the 4-1-1? We’ll tell you: entry is Ultra-Naté-free all night, all genres are on the menu with hip-hop, dance, and house as the primary ingredients, and there’s no school on Friday, so get ready to move it (move it) until late late.

As always, come as you are and wear whatever’s comfortable, and feel free to groove out with your 90s fits if you so please.

PS: smartphones didn’t even exist in the 90s, so let’s keep the screens and cameras to a minimum (unless you’ve got the 35mm point-and-shoot or the disposable on you!).

Hasta la vista,
-JD

Join us for a cosmic celebration! One year since we embarked on a new journey, we stand at the crossroads of past, present, and future—united by the pulse of the dance floor and the boundless energy of our community.

With deep gratitude for every moment that has brought us here, we set our sights on the next dimension. From the heart of the sound to the depths of the unknown, we continue on this journey together, moving as one.

For this special voyage, we’ve called upon trusted navigators Cecily [@cecilpink], Heidy P [@djheidyp], and DJ Lani [@djlaniishere] to help steer the ship, guiding us through a night of immersive sound and celestial frequencies. The destination? Wherever the music takes us.

For our next event in the Community Activities Programming (CAP) series, we turn the music down a few notches during the earlier hours as Lani [@djlaniishere] leads conversation on the topic of gathering with intention.

The first in the “Leads Conversation” series, this occasion will be an interactive dialogue in which the conversation leader is there to facilitate the discussion, and group participation is highly, highly encouraged!

Some exploratory questions to get the group started are:

(1) What are some of the best gatherings you’ve been to in the dance music realm? What made them special?

(2) What do you look for when you seek places to go for a dance music gathering? Do you have any defined goals when you plan to attend an event, and if so, how are those different from occasion to occasion?

(3) How have your intentions vis-a-vis attending dance music gatherings changed over time?

(4) How important are the non-traditional elements of these kinds of gatherings to you (i.e. beyond the music and dancing elements), if at all?

(5) What sort of role does community have in impacting these gatherings for you, and how do you define community?

Lani will select tracks following the discussion to accompany additional one-on-one and smaller group conversations, along with dancing, until close.

We look forward to having you with us for this first occasion in the Leads Conversation series!

Reserve your seat by clicking the link in our bio.

According to our DUMBO neighbors, we had a “full blown f***ing rager” on Saturday afternoon… PSYCH!! In reality, we had a lovely little time with friends from near and far.

In conjunction with mental health awareness month, we raised $400 to the National Alliance on Mental Illness and the National Institute for the Psychotherapies *so far* - if you couldn’t make the event and would still like to make a contribution, you can do so by clicking on the fundraiser here (directed to NAMI), at the donation pages for NAMI & NIP (naminycmetro.org/donate & nipinst.org/donate-to-nip), or please feel free to send me a message me and I will facilitate!

It’s always my pleasure to bring people together for shared positive experiences, especially in today’s world where social isolation, loneliness, and depression are real challenges for many.

Putting on these events is never possible without the care and support of the cast & crew:

@ronan_sound
@honeybbzz
@okaymissalicia
@whoisdjrico

@kahaiav
@quiinnette
@gabbius
@annabel_ross
@daniel_tepper

I would be remiss if I didn’t send a huge *much love* to Herbert, the stuffed animal koala who was our mascot for the day 🐨

Stay tuned for the next Facility event coming soon. Peace Amidst was 😇, the next one will be 😈… taken in DUMBO, Brooklyn by @djlaniishere

Welcome to ‘Lasting Effects’. Thank you for visiting.

You might have heard some of these 36 songs mixed in with other life material I’ve put forth over the last one and a half years: singing them in odd places; discussing them while plotting the future on bar stools; listening to them silently in the car on the way to a funeral or on the way home from a festival; waking up with them and a cold brew; sharing them during the early moments of a summer rooftop party or a whimsical afterhours.

That’s because these pieces have always been playing in the background in my mind. ‘Lasting Effects’ captures the soundtrack of my life since September 2021.

Every time I sat down on a plane since then, I put on this dreamscape-in-playlist-form, and without fail, I fell asleep within the first half hour, usually after a teary-eyed moment induced by the first track, reflecting on the front-of-mind elements of my life at the time and just slowing down to take it all in, with amplified feelings.

My life has changed so much over the last 18 months, and through it all, this music thing has been the steady constant. I can’t imagine a life without the possibility of exploring new music, revisiting old music, sharing music with friends new and old, losing my mind on a dance floor because of music, curating music for all occasions, talking about bad music… basically everything about music. Even one day of this existence without music? Please, no thank you.

‘Lasting Effects’ is an auditory-spatial plane where BPMs do not matter, the nuisances of everyday mundane life do not matter, other people’s worries do not matter, matter does not matter. What you hear and what you feel and what you imagine is what matters. You matter.

This mix is dedicated to all the wonderful people who have shared their time generously and graciously with me during the most challenging episode of transformative growth in my life. There are too many real ones to name here, but you know who you are.

Thank you for sharing these last 47 million seconds with me. Thank you. by @djlaniishere

It always takes me a few days to find the grounding and the right words to make recap posts about events, and this time was no different. I’m centering around the words ‘special’ & ‘grateful’ & ‘joy’.

++Depth Perception felt *special* in so many ways. It was incredible to see so many people come through at off hours on an otherwise-ordinary Sunday in Winter to vibe with this concept; something absolutely unique!

++I’m suuuuper *grateful* for the effort put in by the team that worked each and every element of the production, from the hosts to the ‘bar’tenders to the DJs to the door squad to the sound & light crew to the wigglers & the chillers & the nappers & the entire guest contingent, especially:

@calzone.wav
@aileenamaya
@mago.nyc
@cyberwitch666
@melanieh0ff
@ameloaf
@lycheefrut
@3ll3b33
@heavenwithoutdying
@swaya96
@russellelbutler
@rose.kourts
@christiantokyo
@fleet.dreams
@jackzbandit
@jppetit_
@ddddoula
@amarpatel
@daltonsaffe

++Hearing all the positive feedback makes me feel tremendous *joy*! Many of us cried happy tears on Sunday and that is a wonderful, wonderful thing. Being able to create space for people to do the music & dancing things we love in a way that promotes our overall well-being makes me truly, one hundred percentage points glad! 💖😊💖
